[English]: The Green Blue Infrastructure is a multifunctional and flexible approach based on various layers, composing an organic network. This design methodology has the potential to recompose together fragments of the contemporary city, generating positive effects on both communities and landscape while improving the health and well-being of people and ecosystems. In this book, different project proposals are presented, facing many contexts and themes, all of which can be traced back to the theory of Green Blue Infrastructure. In the first part of the volume, the attention is focused on the Italian territory, in particular in the South, where the design of Green Blue Infrastructures is still very limited: the presented projects address some relevant issues of this ecological approach, like health issues, multifunctionality, connectivity in the green-grey continuum and resilience, proposing design tools and project elements but also possible improvements in the governance and in the management. In the second part of this book, it is possible to recognise two main methodological approaches to the Green Blue Infrastructure. The first one deals with multi-scalarity of ecological design in the context of European coastal landscapes; the second one considers the relationship between the continuity of green networks and the safety and liveability of public spaces. Anyway, both methodologies try to cope with different aspects of the socio-environmental development, following the principle of integration between urban safety, regeneration and Green Blue Infrastructure design.

Consider this ... How do we handle the convergence of landscape architecture, ecological planning, and civil engineering? What are convenient terms and metaphors to communicate the interplay between design and ecology? What are suitable scientific theories and technological means? What innovations arise from multidisciplinary and cross-scalar approaches? What are appropriate aesthetic statements and spatial concepts? What instruments and tools should be applied? Revising Green Infrastructure: Concepts Between Nature and Design examines these questions and presents innovative approaches in designing green, landscape or nature as infrastructure from different perspectives and attitudes instead of adding another definition or category of green infrastructure. The editors bring together the work of selected ecologists, engineers, and landscape architects who discuss a variety of theoretical aspects, research projects, teaching methods, and best practice examples in green infrastructure. The approaches range from retrofitting existing infrastructures through landscape-based integrations of new infrastructures and envisioning prospective landscapes as hybrids, machines, or cultural extensions. The book explores a scientific functional approach in landscape architecture. It begins with an overview of green functionalism and includes examples of how new design logics are deducted from ecology in order to meet economic and environmental requirements and open new aesthetic relationships toward nature. The contributors share a decidedly cultural perspective on nature as landscape. Their ecological view emphasizes the individual nature of specific local situations. Building on this foundation, the subsequent chapters present political ideas and programs defining social relations toward nature and their integration in different planning systems as well as their impact on nature and society. They explore different ways of participation and cooperation within cities, regions, and nations. They then describe projects implemented in local contexts to solve concrete problems or remediate malfunctions. These projects illustrate the full scope presented and discussed throughout the book: the use of scientific knowledge, strategic thinking, communication with municipal authorities and local stakeholders, design implementation on site, and documentation and control of feedback and outcome with adequate indicators and metrics. Although diverse and sometimes controversial, the discussion of how nature is regarded in contrast to society, how human-natural systems could be organized, and how nature could be changed, optimized, or designed raises the question of whether there is a new paradigm for the design of social relations to nature. The multidisciplinary review in this book brings together discussions previously held only within the respective disciplines, and demonstrates how they can be used to develop new methods and remediation strategies.

Current Challenges In Architecture And Urbanism In Albania written by Anna Yunitsyna and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-08-21 with Art categories.

This book aims to provide a cross-sectorial assessment in a multidisciplinary and trans-cultural context onto the innovations in urban and architectural approaches in designing next human environments within the Albanian context. The continuous concentration of the world population in the urban areas and their consequent densification require even more quantity of quality spaces and places, integrated resources and energies, alternative modalities of mobility and transports, demand of social inclusion and need for a circular economy. These have become the major challenges for this 21st Century and some of the greatest problems facing humanity in most of current vision for the future. The main objective is to feed a debate about the emerging trans-cultural (and trans-national) approaches in the whole designing field, from Albanian context and its current good practices, attempts and faults, both formal and informal. Thus, the Albanian experience may represent an opportunity through which we all may reflect about how designing is evolving in the Mediterranean arena of “praxis and experiments” aimed to a better quality of life at the human scale and in expanding the concepts of “place and space” such as it has improved by the effects in designing innovations. This book represents a useful read of theories, experiences and case studies, which can help in enlarging reflection on how the designing practice is evolving in the arena of forthcoming development strategies and tactics, all addressed to improve the quality of life, places and spaces. Additionally, it provides a range of architecture and urban design rationales and strategies for reinforcing identities and creating memorable places within the quality of contemporary architecture and urbanism. It addresses the unique needs of architects and planners to deal with topics that cut across social, economic and environmental issues and shows readers how to explore methods, theoretical frameworks and techniques to address the complex needs of architecture, urban and cultural development.

This book analyses international Green Infrastructure (GI) planning and design strategies. The GI strategy is widely recognized for its multifunctionality (as a tool for ecological, economic and social enhancement) and multiscalarity. Starting from this assumption, the book intends to implement the concept of GI and blue networks in planning strategies and their linked urban projects. New urban and regional paradigms of the latest years, such as urban sprawl, ecosystem services, biodiversity, urban resilience, climate change and health emergencies, have made it necessary to rethink cities and territories and their related plans and projects. To satisfy these paradigms, worldwide plans and projects have started to focus both on short-term and long-term processes and strategies which integrate environmental, landscape and ecological elements. Chapters 1 and 6 are available open access under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License via link.springer.com.

What is the best way to design with greenery? What are the benefits of selecting one species of tree over another, and placing it at Point A instead of Point B? Will it cost more than the benefits it provides? If you have ever asked these questions, this book is for you.Greenery is an integral part of the sustainable planning and design ethos. Besides beautifying the environment, it can also help alleviate adverse impacts of urbanisation such as the Urban Heat Island effect. This book provides an introduction to the various technologies and techniques that facilitate the urban greening process. Each chapter introduces the concept of urban greenery at different scales (city, precinct and plant), as well as relevant methods and considerations for implementation. Assessment frameworks are provided to maximise the benefits of greenery, whilst minimising disservices associated with poor planning, execution or maintenance of greenery or greenery systems. Simple exercises and online resources are provided to illustrate how concepts from this book can be applied in practice. This textbook is essential reading for anyone interested in urban greenery and how it can make a tangible positive impact on our built environment: from students in the architecture, landscape architecture and building construction disciplines, to urban planners, building owners, designers and facility managers who wish to make more informed choices when incorporating greenery into the urban environment during the planning, design, construction and maintenance stages.
