Hans Jacob Christoffel von Grimmelshausen (ca. 1621-1676) is the most significant (and still readable) author of seventeenth-century German novels. Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2009 im Fachbereich Germanistik - Neuere Deutsche Literatur, Note: 1,3, Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena (Institut für Germanistische Literaturwissenschaft), Veranstaltung: Hauptseminar "Grimmelshausen", Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Wohl kein anderes Werk der deutschen Barockliteratur erfreut sich bis heute einer größeren Berühmt- und Beliebtheit als der ‚Simplicissimus Teutsch’ von Grimmelshausen. Die vielen Fassetten und Episoden dieses umfangreichen und komplexen Werkes haben seit Jahrhunderten eine dauerhafte Wirkung in der deutschen Literatur bis in die Gegenwart gezeigt. „Die nun fast 200jährige Interpretationsgeschichte“ des Grimmelshausenschen Werkes, so schrieb Breuer, ist „nur vergleichbar mit der Goethe-Philologie“. Er zählte „über tausend Forschungsarbeiten“, wobei sich besonders die so genannte ‚Jupiter-Episode’ immer wieder aufs Neue als interpretierbar und der Erforschung wert erwiesen hat. Außerdem wurde mit der Zeit ein geradezu unglaublich umfangreicher Quellenbestand der einzelnen Teile der Episode nachgewiesen oder vermutet. Es soll in dieser Arbeit nicht versucht werden, gewaltsam die verschiedenen Meinungen in eine Form zu pressen. Es soll vielmehr das Ziel sein, die Jupiter-Episode als Teil des Romans ‚Simplicissimus Teutsch’ zu betrachten und die Episode unter diesem Aspekt einer Untersuchung zu unterziehen. Dazu soll eine detaillierte Besprechung der Episode in ihrem Kontext vorgenommen werden, um eine Basis für die so oft gesuchte Antwort zu schaffen, welchen Sinn die Episode in der Gesamtkonstruktion des Romans erfüllt. Am Ende soll ein Exkurs über die hochinteressante Quellengeschichte der Episode stehen, die in diesem Zusammenhang nicht unerwähnt bleiben kann.
