Britain's streets have been transformed by the construction of new property - but it's owned by private corporations, designed for profit and watched over by CCTV. Have these gleaming business districts, mega malls and gated developments led to 'regeneration', or have they intensified social divisions and made us more fearful of each other? Anna Minton's acclaimed and passionate polemic, now updated to cover the UK property collapse and London's controversial Olympic Park, shows us the face of Britain today. It reveals the untested - and unwanted - urban planning that is changing not only our cities, but the nature of public space, of citizenship and of trust.

A method of extending geodetic control to geographical areas in which control is sparse or nonexistent makes use of unique combination of aerotriangulation and distance measuring technology. Aircraft or drones are flown over a designated area under control of a radial electronic navigation system. A second higher flying aircraft containing an accurately calibrated metric camera is controlled over the same area and aerial photographs are taken in sequence. Imagery includes both lower flying aircraft and area in which control is desired. Both camera, imagery and photographed aircraft are in a common highly accurate coordinate system. A detailed error analysis was conducted using four aircraft and four ground beacons. The ground beacons are geodetic anchors for the distance measuring equipment navigation system (DME). Ground surveys of existing DME navigation range at RADC were used. Equipment errors from actual equipment were used. Standard corrections for environmental effects were made. The concept was as good as the standard ground techniques for ground control extension. The moving target technique is flexible and aircraft can be commanded to take advantage of lines of flight providing the superior geometry and smallest errors in X, Y and Z coordinates. The use of aerotriangulation and DME navigation represents an order of magnitude decrease in the time required to perform conventional surveys to DME navigation system requirements. (Author).

Ground Control System Description Document written by and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001 with categories.

The Ground Control System contributes to the safe construction and operation of the subsurface facility, including accesses and waste emplacement drifts, by maintaining the configuration and stability of the openings during construction, development, emplacement, and caretaker modes for the duration of preclosure repository life. The Ground Control System consists of ground support structures installed within the subsurface excavated openings, any reinforcement made to the rock surrounding the opening, and inverts if designed as an integral part of the system. The Ground Control System maintains stability for the range of geologic conditions expected at the repository and for all expected loading conditions, including in situ rock, construction, operation, thermal, and seismic loads. The system maintains the size and geometry of operating envelopes for all openings, including alcoves, accesses, and emplacement drifts. The system provides for the installation and operation of sensors and equipment for any required inspection and monitoring. In addition, the Ground Control System provides protection against rockfall for all subsurface personnel, equipment, and the engineered barrier system, including the waste package during the preclosure period. The Ground Control System uses materials that are sufficiently maintainable and that retain the necessary engineering properties for the anticipated conditions of the preclosure service life. These materials are also compatible with postclosure waste isolation performance requirements of the repository. The Ground Control System interfaces with the Subsurface Facility System for operating envelopes, drift orientation, and excavated opening dimensions, Emplacement Drift System for material compatibility, Monitored Geologic Repository Operations Monitoring and Control System for ground control instrument readings, Waste Emplacement/Retrieval System to support waste emplacement operations, and the Subsurface Excavation System for ground control installation.

Human Factors In The Ground Control Of Aircraft written by V. David Hopkin and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1970 with Air traffic control categories.

The actual and potential contributions of human factors to the smooth and efficient functioning of systems for the ground control of aircraft are described and discussed. These systems are concerned with air traffic control or air defense, which fulfill different roles but share many human factors problems. The nature of the human factors contribution at each stage in the evolution of a ground control system is described. Much work has dealt with displays, controls, or communications, or with man's role in complex man-machine systems. Individual differences are considered in relation to selection, training, and screening procedures, and some of the differences which appear most relevant in systems are discussed. Both traditional and new methods for measuring operators are examined in terms of their merits and limitations. The factors of potential relevance to task performance are very numerous, and certain advances in other applied or academic contexts may be adapted with profit to ground control systems. Many of the proposed solutions to human factors problems have been based on limited evidence, mainly because man is treated primarily as a system component. Numerous studies have produced findings related to a specific task, but few widely applicable facts have emerged. Some probable future trends in the application of human factors to ground control systems are suggested. (Author).
