The book is the authors Cameroonian memoir. It is based on true stories and nothing but the truth of what happened in the author's life while living in Cameroon. From the time the author can remember, she lived a regular life and went on to graduate from elementary school. Then on the second year of middle school, the authors life began to take a turn of sexual rape and repetition of similar extreme events, one after another. Because of these sexual events, the author became pregnant and moved back to attend the middle school of her home town which is where she met her husband and they got married and moved to America to supposedly live happily ever after.

The Sacred Door and Other Stories: Cameroon Folktales of the Beba offers readers a selection of folktales infused with riddles, proverbs, songs, myths, and legends, using various narrative techniques that capture the vibrancy of Beba oral traditions. Makuchi retells the stories that she heard at home when she was growing up in her native Cameroon. The collection of thirty-four folktales of the Beba showcases a wide variety of stories that capture the richness and complexities of an agrarian society’s oral literature and traditions. Revenge, greed, and deception are among the themes that frame the story lines in both new and familiar ways. In the title story, a poor man finds himself elevated to king. The condition for his continued success is that he not open the sacred door. This tale of temptation, similar to the story of Pandora’s box, concludes with the question, “What would you have done?” Makuchi relates the stories her mother told her so that readers can make connections between African and North American oral narrative traditions. These tales reinforce the commonalities of our human experiences without discounting our differences.

The core objective of this book is to explore, with the aim of stimulating awareness and illuminating the extent to which Africa is equipping her next generations with responsible values and the right techno-cognitive orientation to cope with and make progress in a competitive, knowledge-driven world in continuous transition. The focal issue revolves on the strategy Africa can adopt to raise children to be African in the light of global trends and requirements. Of course, African children cannot be anything else, but African. Given today's masked hegemonies, can Africa 'be allowed' to develop in its own terms? Can Africans even notice covert hegemonies and pretensions of mutual collaboration? Thus, the book is prepared from awareness that understanding African life journeys and developmental pathways and educational praxis and needs constitute essential foreknowledge for future prospects and progress. The book attempts to enrich the fields of psychology, education, development work and cultural studies with alternative lines and models of theorisation and reinterpretation of existing evidence.

Growing Up In Africa is about a true life story of a unique African child worthy of emulation. He was born to poor, ignorant, and uneducated parents. A child who missed his death at seven months old had a philosophy, by age six, that children's only duties were to eat and to go to school. With this perception he developed a “don't quit” attitude and decided that by hook or by crook he would go to school until he was an adult and old enough to work.At a certain point of his life, the situation became very unbearable when he, at age ten, had to take care of his younger siblings like he was their parent: They were abandoned by their real parents who were most of the time at far away village working on their farms. In many times they went to school on empty stomachs. Sometimes they were sent home because they looked weak and sick. He later discovered chewing palm nuts to alleviate their hunger: It helped a little. Despite the many hindrances, he persevered and succeeded going through his education; his siblings could not make it but dropped out of school no matter how much he inspired them. The hectic conditions he successfully went through makes him very unique because majority of the children, if not all, who faced similar conditions left school to join their parents at the villages, putting themselves into the rank and file group. Read his many wonderful and emotional stories from his book, Growing Up In Africa.

Growing up almost simultaneously with the independent Cameroon nation, it takes Tipoung'he a long time together with challenging experiences to realise that he has all along been living in the shadow of his country. His epic story is representative of the many whose untold stories are caught in the schematic confusion of independence, in which self-knowledge must rally back finally from the lethargic ideals of the Nation and the Patriot in a redeeming instance of identity. The story mirrors the growth of the hero as he gets used to his ever shifting environment. The complexity of experience, the burden of knowledge, and how to express these, confront Tipoung'he with prescriptive arrogance, and the more he gets entangled in the authoritative and patriotic mesh, the more he becomes aware of the need to withdraw from their osmotic consciousness. The moment of withdrawal, which coincides with self-knowledge, is a personal and symbolic rebirth.

Growing up in remote Cameroon, Richard Afuma could not expect to live much past the age of 40, and his chances of any sort of education were slim. But at the age of eight, Afuma found his way to a school run by Baptist missionaries. When he was ten, he saw his first white person who, from his education, he took to be Jesus Christ. He was told that the Land Rovers he saw were made by these same people—Jesuses with supernatural powers—who were uniformly called Americans. In The Python Trail, Afuma portrays the kind of journey that many immigrants have made, but few have described.

Growing up with a severe physical disability in (Southern) Cameroon in the 1950s - pre independence from Britain - was very challenging. But these challenges were made worse by gender norms and expectations. Very little has changed 60 years later. There is still a lot of stigma, shame, blame, discrimination, and a simple lack of resources and political will to improve the lives of people with disabilities. In Pearl Zonking, I describe how culture, gender and Christianity (Catholicism and then Pentecostalism in West Africa ) affect people with disabilities in Cameroon. But mostly, I share stories from my childhood, secondary school and high school days, and my life in a 35 year career as a secondary school teacher unable to walk, yet working in country with practically no accommodations for people with disabilities. Like everyone else, my life consists of challenges, successes, failures, hope, faith, despair, sickness, health, and abundance. But the timing of events in my life, my relationship with God, and how I react to the twists and turns make my story different.
