Just in time for the major motion picture Dolittle starring Robert Downey Jr.—soaring into theaters on January 17, 2020! Journey into the world of Doctor Dolittle, the kind and eccentric naturalist who can speak with animals. Working with original author Hugh Lofting’s son, these books have been fully updated for the modern reader, all while retaining the full charm of the originals. Rediscover the children’s literature classic with four novels from the beloved series! This concluding volume delves into prehistorical puzzles that begin with the Doctor’s arrival on the lunar surface in Doctor Dolittle in the Moon. There he not only meets the Moon Man and intelligent plants, but learns how the moon came to be in the first place. In Doctor Dolittle’s Return, he sets out to reveal all he learned on the moon, but is no sooner off to Africa to rescue his old friend, Mudface the turtle, the last living passenger of Noah’s Ark. In Doctor Dolittle and the Secret Lake, we at last hear his fascinating tale of The Great Flood. This complete collection of the tales of Doctor Dolittle concludes with the delectable dessert that is Gub Gub’s Book, in which the famous pig writes a book of his own: an encyclopedia of food!

The English-born American author Hugh Lofting was the creator of the beloved children's character of Doctor Dolittle, the eccentric, yet genial physician that can talk to the animals. The genesis of the series appeared in illustrated letters sent by Lofting to his children, while he was undergoing the horrors of the trenches in World War I, when news was “too horrible” to send. The Dolittle books are celebrated for their charming wit and the humorous treatment of the doctor’s bachelor household in Puddleby-on-the-Marsh. However, Lofting’s works provide a recurring message of pacifism and censure of warmongering, which is most evident in Lofting’s anti-war poem ‘Victory for the Slain’. For the first time in publishing history, this edition presents Lofting’s complete works, with numerous illustrations, rare texts and concise introductions. (Version 1) * Beautifully illustrated with images relating to Lofting’s life and works * Concise introductions to the novels and other texts * All of the Doctor Dolittle books, including ALL of Lofting’s original illustrations * Rare novels appearing for the first time in digital publishing * Images of how the books were first published, giving your eReader a taste of the original texts * Excellent formatting of the texts * Lofting’s other children’s books, digitised here for the first time, including ‘Porridge Poetry’ and ‘Noisy Nora’ * Lofting’s works for adults – available in no other collection * Includes the 1924 pacifist essay ‘Children and Internationalism’ * The anti-war poem ‘Victory for the Slain’ * Ordering of texts into chronological order and genres Please visit www.delphiclassics.com to browse through our range of exciting titles CONTENTS: The Doctor Dolittle Books The Story of Doctor Dolittle (1920) The Voyages of Doctor Dolittle (1922) Doctor Dolittle’s Post Office (1923) Doctor Dolittle’s Circus (1924) Doctor Dolittle’s Zoo (1925) Doctor Dolittle’s Caravan (1926) Doctor Dolittle’s Garden (1927) Doctor Dolittle in the Moon (1928) Gub Gub’s Book (1932) Doctor Dolittle’s Return (1933) Doctor Dolittle and the Secret Lake (1948) Doctor Dolittle and the Green Canary (1950) Doctor Dolittle’s Puddleby Adventures (1952) Other Children’s Books The Story of Mrs. Tubbs (1923) Porridge Poetry (1924) Noisy Nora (1929) The Twilight of Magic (1930) Tommy, Tilly, and Mrs. Tubbs (1936) Works for Adults Children and Internationalism (1924) Victory for the Slain (1942) Please visit www.delphiclassics.com to browse through our range of exciting titles or to purchase this eBook as a Parts Edition of individual eBooks

The Pig written by Richard Lutwyche and has been published by Ivy Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-10-01 with Nature categories.

At any given time there are around one billion pigs in the world; that’s one for every seven of us. And where would we be without them? Prolific, ubiquitous, smart, adaptable, able to turn garbage into good-quality protein just by eating it, pigs have been our companions since neolithic days when they obligingly domesticated themselves, coming in out if the wild to truffle around our waste pits. It’s not all about the bacon: the resourceful pig, now reformatted in micro packages, has developed a whole new career as a portable pet. And thanks to the recent genome mapping we now know that pig physiology is remarkably similar to our own. The Pig: A Natural History covers evolution from prehistoric “hell pig” to placid porker; anatomy, biology, and behavior; the pig’s contribution to our lives; and the high profile of this remarkable beast in popular culture.

Crossing Ocean Parkway written by Marianna De Marco Torgovnick and has been published by University of Chicago Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-06-18 with Literary Criticism categories.

Growing up an Italian-American in the Bensonhurst neighborhood of New York city, Marianna De Marco longed for college, culture, and upward mobility. Her daydreams circled around WASP (White Anglo Saxon Protestant) heroes on television—like Robin Hood and the Cartwright family—but in Brooklyn she never encountered any. So she associated moving up with Ocean Parkway, a street that divides the working-class Italian neighborhood where she was born from the middle-class Jewish neighborhood into which she married. This book is Torgovnick's unflinching account of crossing cultural boundaries in American life, of what it means to be an Italian American woman who became a scholar and literary critic. Included are autobiographical moments interwoven with engrossing interpretations of American cultural icons from Dr. Dolittle to Lionel Trilling, The Godfather to Camille Paglia. Her experiences allow her to probe the cultural tensions in America caused by competing ideas of individuality and community, upward mobility and ethnic loyalty, acquisitiveness and spirituality.
