While writing a story for a local paper, he falls for the subject of the article — a beautiful but mysterious woman named Darcy. Accused of several crimes, Darcy lives a life on the edge as she continues to lie, cheat and decieve the people who care the most for her while feigning innocence. A private eye hired by a family who fell victim to her crimes uncovers a devious plot to blame Darcy for several brutal murders. Guilty at Birth is a compelling true story of a young African American boy, who from the age of six was encouraged and influenced by his father to become a career criminal in the field of forgery. The circumstances, influence and environment in which he was introduced to led him into a world of crime and deception, in a field that was considered a white-collar crime during the 60 s 70 s and 80 s. The Kingstro s, an African American family for over three decades was categorized by the FBI and other law enforcement agencies to be one of the most legendary criminal families of white-collar illegal activities in the field of forgery, which during those days was considered a highly sophisticated crime, one that most blacks would not entertain. It took the author more than ten years to write his story. The activities and events written in this book are true. The story depicts true chronological events that have made a major impact on the social party, economic decline and disenfranchise of people that had longed to be heard. You will be moved to tears and shocked beyond belief at some of the activities and true events that took place in this story during a time when blacks, whose human rights and democracy were disregarded as a man of color. This is a must read book for parents and youth. This is the first none- novel that I have read that I can refer to as a page turner. You simply won t want to put it down! The author, Walter Kingstro has made his peace with God, and wants to tell his story to the world in hopes that by doing so, he will enlighten and save another soul from going through what he did, to finally learn the truth, that crime does not pay. Philip's letter arrives two months later, "As I said before, you are fortunate to be with my family who cares about you. Whether you like it or not, that's where you will have to rot." Ambra decides to send one last letter to Philip explaining again the uncomfortable situation she has to put up with and adds that it seems to be getting harder to pay attention to her teacher. Philip's uncaring response arrives a couple of weeks later. Ambra shows up in the classroom with a sad face and her mind elsewhere. Clelia immediately asks, "What have they done to you now?" "A fat envelope arrived from Argentina yesterday," Ambra tells her. "Well, what was in it?" "My father mailed my letter back to Albert and Gismonda. They laughed at it all evening last night and this morning again." Clelia loses her patience and exclaims, "I think your father is a piece of s***." This book shows the need for a law that mandates mental testing because, for this author, life experience has proven that this type of scrutiny is the most intelligent means to prevent child abuse. Noama Malva Roman uses her personal story and in particular, the figure of her father, Philip, to illustrate the importance of a healthy mind when an individual is in the position of decision maker, whether at a household level or a government level. In this book, the author stresses the serious role that poverty plays in the crime of child abuse while she underscores the essential fair distribution of wealth in our worldwide society. In addition, Roman includes material for classroom discussion to invite teachers and other instructors to bring these issues into the classroom, in both high schools and universities.

A Harvard-trained obstetrician-gynecologist, prominent blogger, and author of the classic How Your Baby Is Born delivers a timely, important, and sure to be headline-making expose that shines a light on the natural parenting movement and the multimillion-dollar industry behind it. The natural parenting movement praises the virtues of birth without medical interference, staunchly advocates breastfeeding for all mothers, and hails attachment parenting. Once the exclusive province of the alternative lifestyle, natural parenting has gone mainstream, becoming a lucrative big business today. But those who do not subscribe to this method are often made to feel as if they are doing their children harm. Dr. Amy Tuteur understands their apprehensions. “Parenting quickly feels synonymous with guilt. And of late, there is no bigger arena for this pervasive guilt than childbirth.” As a medical professional with a long career in obstetrics and gynecology and as the mother of four children, Tuteur is no stranger to the insurmountable pressures and subsequent feelings of blame and self-condemnation that mothers experience during their children’s early years. The natural parenting movement, she contends, is not helping them raise their children better. Instead, it capitalizes on their uncertainty, manipulating parents when they are most vulnerable. In Push Back, she chronicles the movement’s history from its roots to its modern practices, incorporating her own experiences as a mother and successful OB-GYN with original research on the latest in childbirth science. She also reveals the dangerous and overtly misogynistic motives of some of its proponents—conservative men who sought to limit women’s control and autonomy. As she debunks, one by one, the guilt-inducing myths of natural birth and parenting, Dr. Tuteur empowers women to embrace the method of childbirth that is right for them, while reassuring all parents that the most important thing they can do is love and care for their children.

This book examines the phenomenon of infanticide in Ireland from 1850 to 1900, examining a sample of 4,645 individual cases of infant murder, attempted infanticide and concealment of birth. Evidence for this study has been gleaned from a variety of sources, including court documents, coroners’ records, prison files, parliamentary papers, and newspapers. Through these sources, many of which are rarely used by scholars, attitudes towards the crime, the women accused of the offence, and the victim, are revealed. Although infant murder was a capital offence during this period, none of the women found guilty of the crime were executed, suggesting a degree of sympathy and understanding towards the accused. Infanticide cases also allude to complex dynamics and tensions between employers and servants, parents and pregnant daughters, judges and defendants, and prison authorities and inmates. This book highlights much about the lived realities of nineteenth-century Ireland.
