Este livro analisa a proteção do direito à vida pelo Estado, sociedade e família, sob o aspecto filosófico-jurídico desde a antiguidade oriental (egípcios, hebreus e mesopotâmios), clássica (Grécia, Roma: habeas corpus), medieval (writs da Inglaterra), moderna (contratualismo) e contemporânea (Brasil e mundo). Para criar e desenvolver um novo mandamus, o estudo explora doutrina, tratados internacionais, legislação interna, jurisprudência, dimensões dos direitos humanos, ODS da agenda 2030 da ONU e o estado da arte. Aprofunda conceito, distinção, objeto, legitimidade ativa e passiva, características, espécies e competência do habeas vitae, além de aspectos importantes como presunção do direito à vida, impetração necessária, dentre outros. Por fim, a obra sugere meios práticos de implementação, aprimoramento e popularização do instituto, com anteprojeto de emenda constitucional, modelo de petição inicial, sistema único integrado e campanhas educacionais.
