Este volumen recoge las ponencias y estudios presentados en las X Jornadas de Filosofía organizadas por la Sociedad de Filosofía de Castilla la Mancha en abril de 2007. El nexo de unión de todos ellos es abordar, desde diferentes perspectivas, el análisis de los nuevos desafíos planteados tanto a la reflexión teórica como a la actividad política por una sociedad globalizada y multicultural, tratando de contribuir no sólo a la teorización sobre nuestro mundo, sino también a la actuación sobre el mismo. Numerosos estudios ponen de manifiesto que un elevado porcentaje de nuestros jóvenes adopta actitudes pasivas e individualistas en el ámbito de la acción política. Urge, pues, un cambio de timón en nuestra forma de «abordar» la realidad si queremos comprender lo que acontece y poder fundar así los cimientos de un modelo de convivencia conforme a las exigencias de la llamada «democracia moral». Un nuevo ethos solidario de la justicia social que active la conciencia ciudadana acerca de las paradojas del progreso «frente al ethos individualista de la justicia vinculado al rendimiento personal», como señala Habermas.

Cuando planeábamos el Coloquio anual de la Academia de Ciencias Sociales y Humanidades del Estado de Morelos nos pareció pertinente explorar la situación de riesgo de las sociedades menos favorecidas económicamente; dirimir qué peligros enfrentamos en la segunda década del siglo XXI y alertar sobre la importancia de no abandonar este mirador, de cara a los relevantes desarrollos científicos y tecnológicos que están modificando nuestras formas de vida. Motivadas y motivados por esta orientación, durante la reunión hablamos sobre el impacto del imparable desarrollo de la tecnología de las comunicaciones, de las implicaciones de este en la conformación de las subjetividades; hablamos sobre los riesgos de las Redes sociales, de las fake news y del Internet de las cosas. También abordamos asuntos como los riesgos actuales en la educación superior, en los procesos productivos y en el ámbito del trabajo, y dialogamos sobre la oportunidad que tenemos, a la luz de las discusiones sobre el fin o no de la modernidad, de pensar las modernidades desde otro locus, el latinoamericano.
