Brazil's Northeast has traditionally been considered one of the country's poorest and most underdeveloped areas. In this impassioned work, the Brazilian historian Durval Muniz de Albuquerque Jr. investigates why Northeasterners are marginalized and stereotyped not only by inhabitants of other parts of Brazil but also by nordestinos themselves. His broader question though, is how "the Northeast" came into existence. Tracing the history of its invention, he finds that the idea of the Northeast was formed in the early twentieth century, when elites around Brazil became preoccupied with building a nation. Diverse phenomena—from drought policies to messianic movements, banditry to new regional political blocs—helped to consolidate this novel concept, the Northeast. Politicians, intellectuals, writers, and artists, often nordestinos, played key roles in making the region cohere as a space of common references and concerns. Ultimately, Albuqerque urges historians to question received concepts, such as regions and regionalism, to reveal their artifice and abandon static categories in favor of new, more granular understandings.

This is the Torah, volume one, of the Portuguese English Bilingual Bible book series. It is in English and Portuguese, two of the top ten most widely spoken languages on Earth. It is the King James Version and Almeida Recebida translations, good and accurate translations for learning either language, as well as having a correct and reliable translation from the received texts of the Holy Bible itself. The translators relied on "formal equivalence" to preserve phrasing and literal content from the Hebrew and Greek documents. This present volume is divided in columns for each language, with each corresponding verse line matching its equal on the opposite side of the page. The font size and style is easy to read. Typo's and the rare instance of missing information (such as superscriptions above psalms and colophons ending epistles) have been translated from English to Portuguese, and in some cases Hebrew into Portuguese, by Alan Lewis Silva, who has lovingly and carefully edited this wonderful book, the Torah.

Este livro tem por foco a reflexão ao projeto em urbanismo. O autor posiciona o projeto como uma construção narrativa discursiva, propondo um deslizamento da dimensão do saber-fazer ao pensar-fazer. O pensar-fazer suspende a dimensão resolutiva, imaginando o projeto para além da sua realidade técnica e instrumental, instalando uma dimensão política. O texto se constrói como a tessitura entre filosofia, urbanismo e literatura, produzindo uma narrativa ensaística. Pensar o projeto de maneira experimental, arriscando mais, riscando menos – rasgar algumas certezas. Não se trata de buscar verdades sobre o projeto, mas especulações, experimentações e pensamentos. Falar do projeto pelo ensaio é avançar por digressões especulativas, e não perder de vista sua expressão poética e aberta. É um risco. Esse rasgar só é possível a partir de um movimento de radicalização no processo de projeto a partir de três movimentos conceituais e operativos − uma negativa, uma torção e um espaçamento. Esses movimentos de radicalização são analisados ao longo do texto a partir de três obras ficcionais: a negativa é pensada a partir da História do cerco de Lisboa, José Saramago; a torção, em Bartleby, o escrevente. Uma história de Wall Street, Herman Melville; o espaçamento, em Esperando Godot, Samuel Beckett. É a partir desses três movimentos, em consonância com a ficção e sua dimensão política, que se desenvolve a possibilidade de um deslocamento do saber-fazer do projeto para um pensar-fazer.
