¿Qué hacer para evitar que la desigualdad, que hoy es diagnóstico, se transforme en destino ineludible para millones de personas en América Latina? Mientras muchas banderas tradicionales de la izquierda pasan a manos de la derecha radical, se consolidan inequidades estructurales y los ciudadanos desconfían cada vez más de sus dirigentes, la salida ya no está en repetir consignas. Es urgente pensar distinto, volver a incomodar con las ideas y poner a prueba las utopías. Este libro aspira a dar herramientas concretas para pensar un nuevo tipo de contrato social y ambiental entre el Estado, las ciudadanías y la naturaleza. Uno en el que la mirada neoliberal se reemplace por modelos que pongan en el centro la inclusión, la diversidad, la redistribución igualitaria de los bienes, la fraternidad y el cuidado. En otras palabras, que aspiren a reparar un tejido social lastimado en una crisis que es histórica pero que, en el siglo XXI, tiene también rasgos inéditos. En estas páginas, referentes del mundo académico, las políticas públicas y los movimientos sociales, de geografías, edades, áreas del conocimiento y experiencias militantes bien distintas, dialogan para armar, en conjunto, una reflexión colectiva original y desafiante. Al discutir el género, la democracia, el ambiente, la educación, las juventudes y sus formas de militancia, las políticas de cuidado y las migraciones, buscan interpelar a todos aquellos que desde distintos ámbitos pueden influir con sus ideas y sus acciones en el futuro político del continente. Sus propuestas se niegan a documentar el pesimismo. Se trata, por el contrario, de despertar al pensamiento progresista de la región, para poner todos sus recursos intelectuales y su potencia política al servicio de construir horizontes donde hoy tantas personas solo pueden ver abismos.
