Syari`at Islam dibangun di atas dua pondasi; Al-Qur’an dan Hadis. Keduanya memiliki kaitan yang sangat erat. Banyak ayat-ayat Al-Qur’an yang tidak bisa diartikan dengan benar dan tepat tanpa bantuan keterangan dari Sunnah Nabi (hadis). Salah satu contoh tentang perintah wajibnya salat dalam Al-Qur`an yang tidak mungkin dipraktikkan tanpa bantuan Sunnah Nabi, karena Al-Qur’an tidak menyebutkan tata cara salat dari awal sampai akhir. Al-Qur’an hanya menegaskan wajibnya salat lima waktu. Arti penting mempelajari ilmu hadis dapat dilihat dari ungkapan Imam Abu Hanifah, ” Tanpa Sunnah tak seorang pun dari kita yang dapat memahami Al-Qur’an.” Buku yang ada di tangan pembaca ini adalah kumpulan Hadis Qudsi, yaitu hadis yang diriwayatkan oleh Nabi dari Allah. Hadis qudsi disebut juga dengan hadis Rabbani/Ilahi. Kedudukan Hadis Qudsi berada di antara Al-Qur’an dan Hadis Nabawi. Perbedaannya terdapat pada penisbatan lafal dan makna. Lafal dan makna Al-Qur’an Al-Karim dinisbatkan langsung kepada Allah. Sedangkan Hadis Nabawi, lafal dan maknanya dinisbatkan kepada Nabi. Adapun Hadis Qudsi, hanya maknanya saja yang dinisbatkan kepada Allah Ta’ala, sedangkan lafalnya dari Nabi. Oleh karena itulah, membaca Hadis Qudsi tidak terhitung sebagai ibadah, tidak dapat digunakan sebagai bacaan dalam salat, tiada tantangan dari Allah kepada orang kafir untuk menandinginya, dan tidak dinukil secara mutawatir sebagaimana Al-Qur’an. Sehingga Hadis Qudsi ada yang berderajat shahih, dha’if, bahkan maudlu’ (palsu). Meski demikian, bukan berarti mempelajari Hadis Qudsi tidak penting, apalagi bila kumpulan Hadis Qudsi yang telah diseleksi oleh ulama yang teruji kapasitas dan kapabilitasnya sebagai ahli hadis. Imam Nawawi dan Imam Qasthalani, sebagai penyusun kumpulan Hadis Qudsi dalam kitab ini.
