This book is the first to offer an in-depth analysis of transitional justice as an unfinished agenda in Indonesia’s democracy. Examining the implementation of transitional justice measures in post-authoritarian Indonesia, this book analyses the factors within the democratic transition that either facilitated or hindered the adoption and implementation of transitional justice measures. Gerakan fundamentalisme Islam seringkali dimaknai secara pejoratif. Gerakan ini diasosiasikan sebagai gerakan politis yang seringkali memaksakan kehendak dengan menggunakan aktivitas kekerasan dalam mencapai tujuannya. Selain faktor sistem politik yang terbuka, gerakan ini ternyata tidak hanya berorientasi politis. Buku ini membuktikan bahwa gerakan fundamentalisme Islam juga menjalankan fungsi sosial budaya. Bahkan fungsi inilah yang menyebabkan gerakan ini mampu eksis dalam berbagai kondisi sosial politik. Dalam konteks sosial, gerakan ini aktif memberikan advokasi kepada masyarakat luas. Sementara itu, dalam konteks budaya, gerakan fundamentalisme Islam mencoba membentuk budaya baru yang didasarkan pada nilai-nilai Islam. Keseriusan mereka dalam mewujudkan ini dapat tercermin dalam upaya mendiseminasikan ide mereka de tengan-tengah masyarakat. Meskipun keberadaan gerakan ini seringkali menimbulkan masalah di tengan masyarakat, namun ada hal yang harus diadopsi oleh siapapun yang menjadikan gerakan ini sebagai ancaman. Militansi dan optimisme menjadi kata kunci mengapa gerakan ini masih eksis bahkan berkembang. Oleh karenanya, bagi siapapun yang berharap gerakan ini menjadi redup, tentu tantangan terbesarnya adalam mereka harus mampu mewujudkan gerakan yang dapat membangun optimisme dan militansi yang jauh lebih baik.
