Mit diesem Buch wird von der Autorin eine wesentliche Forschungslücke in der Pflegebildungsforschung geschlossen, indem die Diskrepanz zwischen pflegedidaktischem Professionswissen und pflegedidaktischem Professionshandeln entdeckt und das Phänomen des Handelns wider besseres Wissen im Körperpflegeunterricht generiert wird. Diese Diskrepanz zwischen Wissen und Handeln wurde bereits von Aristoteles beschrieben und als 'Akrasia' bezeichnet. Im Kontext des Lehrerhandelns zeigt sich Akrasia sowohl in der Ausführung inadäquater pädagogischer Handlungen als auch in der Unterlassung erforderlicher pädagogischer Handlungen. All diesen akratischen Handlungen - so zeigt diese Arbeit - liegen Ursachen zugrunde, die entweder persönlichkeitsbezogen sind oder auf organisatorischen Zwängen basieren. Die Autorin zeigt auf, warum das Phänomen Handeln wider besseres Wissen zu einem zentralen Gegenstand der Lehrer- und Lehrerinnenausbildung gemacht werden muss. Ein besonderer Fokus ist dabei auf die Ausbildung von Lehrenden in Gesundheits- und Pflegeberufen zu legen, denn die im Jahr 2020 eingeführte generalistische Pflegeausbildung führt zu einer Zunahme der Komplexität und Vielschichtigkeit von pflegedidaktischem Wissen und Handeln. Es ist zu vermuten, dass vermehrt akratische Handlungen auftreten werden. Handeln wider besseres Wissen bietet im Kontext von Lehrerprofessionalität Potential für die Weiterentwicklung der eigenen Reflexionsfähigkeit, die prospektive Planung von Unterricht und die konstruktive Zusammenarbeit im Team. Während des NS-Regimes wurden chronisch »geistig kranke« PatientInnen im Rahmen eines wohl kalkulierten biopolitischen Programms ermordet. Dieses Programm nutzte etablierte wissenschaftliche Standards und beruhte auf damaligen eugenischen Vorstellungen. Circa 300.000 PatientInnen wurden während dieser Zeit getötet, und es waren Pflegende, die dies alltäglich ausführten. Neuere Forschungen legen allerdings die Vermutung nahe, dass psychiatrische PatientInnen auch vor und nach Ende des NS-Regimes ermordet wurden. Das führt zu der Annahme, dass die Motive für die Morde innerhalb der psychiatrischen Praxis zu suchen sind.Dieses Buch versucht die Mechanismen und wissenschaftlichen Diskurse zu identifizieren, die es Pflegenden ermöglichten, PatientInnen als lebensunwert wahrzunehmen. Basierend auf der Methodologie der »institutional ethnography« zeigt es, dass PatientInnenakten als »inscriptions« analysiert werden müssen, die aktiv in die Interaktionen innerhalb der Institution psychiatrische Anstalt eingreifen und dabei eine bestimmte, verschriftlichte Realität erzeugen. In der Analyse dieser »inscriptions« geht es nicht darum zu fragen, ob die abgebildete Realität wahr ist, sondern eher darum, zu verstehen welche Funktion Dokumente in der psychiatrischen Praxis hatten und welche Effekte sie erzeugten. Das Buch zeigt ferner, wie Pflegende aktiv in die Konstruktion von PatientInnen-Identitäten involviert waren und wie diese »dokumentarischen Identitäten« letztlich zum Tod tausender menschlicher Leben führten.
