Che è quella di conoscere e incontrare Dio e, insieme, conoscere e incontrare un prossimo che potrebbe diventare una sorella o un fratello. Partendo dal culto delle Chiese riformate, Paolo Ricca propone un aggiornamento di forme e contenuti che ridiano gioia e interesse nella partecipazione e apertura a una più grande varietà di esperienze liturgiche ed ecumeniche. Un vero e proprio happening dello Spirito. Anche se il Nuovo Testamento non propone un modello normativo per il culto, presenta però dei criteri comuni che lo rendono identificabile come tale: il primo criterio è la libertà, che non vuol dire disordine e improvvisazione ma ordine creativo e responsabile, senza rigidità; il secondo è la biblicità, cioè la conformità alla sostanza della Sacra Scrittura, dell’Antico e del Nuovo Testamento; il terzo criterio è la coralità, cioè la pluralità e dialogicità di voci, musiche e forme di comunicazione.

However you view the present time, it is a new century, a new world, and also a new humanity - in fact, humanity is not something that was ever defined once and for all, but remains an open project. For several decades we have been witnessing a revolution. However, unlike the political and ideological revolutions that took place around the First World War, this is a technological and much more radical one that does not depend on people's beliefs, but rather on the tireless labour of machines. The rise of automation has brought about a revelation of something that had hitherto remained hidden in the workshops of homo faber. That is, there are very few functions, apart from consumption, where a machine cannot replace a human being, be these material or spiritual - machines need energy, but they can also do without it, whereas humans die if deprived of it, or one can imagine a machine producing symphonies, but not enjoying them. So while human beings are still needed, their roles and scopes have to be reconsidered. Workers may be superfluous, but humans are still needed, including those who until recently only recognised themselves as producers. The exclusion of workers from production does not discount humans being able to produce value in the form of consumption. Recognising this will enable us to conceive the "Webfare" - a new digital system that will teach us to find new names and new forms, more tolerance and room for traditional human needs. Above all, it will teach us how to transform the time given to us by automation into an opportunity for progress.

E proprio qui stanno la sua forza, la sua sfida e il suo limite. La preoccupazione omiletica di Bonhoeffer si concentra sul cuore del messaggio evangelico. Che senso può avere nel XXI secolo un’apologia della fede? Nella prima parte del libro, Paolo Ricca si propone di affrontare e discutere le maggiori obiezioni che nella modernità sono state e continuano a essere mosse alla fede in Dio e alla sua stessa esistenza. Passa poi a esporre, in maniera succinta, non già l’intero Credo cristiano, bensì i tratti più caratteristici dell’idea cristiana di Dio, così come emergono dalle pagine della Bibbia: l’autore infatti, non ha, «sul tema “Dio”, altra sapienza da offrire che quella che proviene dalla storia di Israele, di Gesù e degli apostoli». Infine, non teme di esprimere le sue personali convinzioni in merito, in dialogo costante con la cultura contemporanea e con le religioni mondiali. «A proposito dell’esistenza di Dio, è interessante osservare che la Bibbia non spende una parola per dimostrarla. Quasi come se la cosa non la interessasse. In effetti non è l’esistenza di Dio che interessa alla Bibbia, ma la sua opera, la sua storia con e per Israele, con e per l’umanità. La pura esistenza di Dio non è un tema della Bibbia. [...] Un Dio la cui essenza sarebbe l’esistenza, nella Bibbia non c’è, perché non c’è nella realtà. Translating Italy in the Eighteenth Century offers a historical analysis of the role played by translation in that complex redefinition of women's writing that was taking place in Britain in the second half of the eighteenth century. It investigates the ways in which women writers managed to appropriate images of Italy and adapt them to their own purposes in a period which covers the 'moral turn' in women's writing in the 1740s and foreshadows the Romantic interest in Italy at the end of the century. A brief survey of translations produced by women in the period 1730-1799 provides an overview of the genres favoured by women translators, such as the moral novel, sentimental play and a type of conduct literature of a distinctively 'proto-feminist' character. Elizabeth Carter's translation of Francesco Algarotti's II Newtonianesimo per le Dame (1739) is one of the best examples of the latter kind of texts. A close reading of the English translation indicates a 'proto-feminist' exploitation of the myth of Italian women's cultural prestige. Another genre increasingly accessible to women, namely travel writing, confirms this female interest in Italy. Female travellers who visited Italy in the second half of the century, such as Hester Piozzi, observed the state of women's education through the lenses provided by Carter. Piozzi's image of Italy, a paradoxical mixture of imagination and realistic observation, became a powerful symbolic source, which enabled the fictional image of a modern, relatively egalitarian British society to take shape.
