Harmonic distortion problems include equipment overheating, motor failures, capacitor failure and inaccurate power metering. The topic of power system harmonics was covered for the first time 20 years ago and the first edition has become a standard reference work in this area. Unprecedented developments in power electronic devices and their integration at all levels in the power system require a new look at the causes and effects of these problems, and the state of hardware and software available for harmonic assessment. Following the successful first edition, this second edition of Power System Harmonics maintains the practical approach to the subject and discusses the impact of advanced power electronic technology on instrumentation, simulation, standards and active harmonic elimination techniques. Features include: A new chapter on modern digital instrumentation techniques. Added sections on active filters and modern distorting devices such as FACTS devices, multilevel conversion, current source, voltage source inverters and turn-OFF-related power electronic devices. References to international standards for harmonics and inter-harmonics. Numerical examples of technique application. Offering a comprehensive understanding of power systems, this book is an asset to power engineers involved in the planning, design and operation of power system generation, transmission and distribution. Researchers and postgraduate students in the field will also benefit from this useful reference.

Harmonics And Power Systems written by Francisco C. De La Rosa and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-05-22 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Harmonics have always been a problem with industrial loads, but now more and more consumer and commercial power loads are cropping up as sources of harmonic currents. Approaching the problem from both utility and end-user perspectives, Harmonics and Power Systems addresses the most relevant aspects in the generation and propagation of harmonic currents in electrical networks. Grounded in years of practical experience working and teaching in the electric, oil, and steel industries in several countries to address the harmonics problem, De La Rosa elucidates the concepts and equations with worked examples and various illustrations generated using current industrial software tools. From a general overview of the principles and equations used to describe and analyze harmonic currents to the fundamentals of power losses in harmonic environments, this field-tested book offers detailed coverage of passive harmonic filters, harmonic propagation analysis, and alternatives to filtering. The author provides a clear-cut procedure for evaluating harmonic current propagation and assessing their penetration into electrical networks. He also discusses the most important and widely used industry standards to control harmonic distortion levels. Recognizing the diversity of power networks, this book examines the role of specific characteristics of various types of networks. Harmonics and Power Systems is an easy-to-follow, practical introduction for novices and a useful problem-solving tool for seasoned professionals.

Hyperspherical Harmonics And Their Physical Applications written by Avery James Emil and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-11-27 with Science categories.

Hyperspherical harmonics are extremely useful in nuclear physics and reactive scattering theory. However, their use has been confined to specialists with very strong backgrounds in mathematics. This book aims to change the theory of hyperspherical harmonics from an esoteric field, mastered by specialists, into an easily-used tool with a place in the working kit of all theoretical physicists, theoretical chemists and mathematicians. The theory presented here is accessible without the knowledge of Lie-groups and representation theory, and can be understood with an ordinary knowledge of calculus. The book is accompanied by programs and exercises designed for teaching and practical use. Hyperspherical Harmonics And Generalized Sturmians written by John S. Avery and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1999-11-30 with Science categories.

This book explores the connections between the theory of hyperspherical harmonics, momentum-space quantum theory, and generalized Sturmian basis functions; and it introduces methods which may be used to solve many-particle problems directly, without the use of the self-consistent-field approximation. The method of many-electron Sturmians offers an interesting and fresh alternative to the usual SCF-CI methods for calculating atomic and molecular structure. When many-electron Sturmians are used, and when the basis potential is chosen to be the attractive potential of the nuclei in the system, the following advantages are offered: the matrix representation of the nuclear attraction potential is diagonal; the kinetic energy term vanishes from the secular equation; the Slater exponents of the atomic orbitals are automatically optimized; convergence is rapid; a correlated solution to the many-electron problem can be obtained directly, without the use of the SCF approximation; and excited states can be obtained with good accuracy.

Ellipsoidal Harmonics written by George Dassios and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-07-12 with Mathematics categories.

The sphere is what might be called a perfect shape. Unfortunately nature is imperfect and many bodies are better represented by an ellipsoid. The theory of ellipsoidal harmonics, originated in the nineteenth century, could only be seriously applied with the kind of computational power available in recent years. This, therefore, is the first book devoted to ellipsoidal harmonics. Topics are drawn from geometry, physics, biosciences and inverse problems. It contains classical results as well as new material, including ellipsoidal bi-harmonic functions, the theory of images in ellipsoidal geometry and vector surface ellipsoidal harmonics, which exhibit an interesting analytical structure. Extended appendices provide everything one needs to solve formally boundary value problems. End-of-chapter problems complement the theory and test the reader's understanding. The book serves as a comprehensive reference for applied mathematicians, physicists, engineers and for anyone who needs to know the current state of the art in this fascinating subject.
