Excerpt from Secretary's Second Report: Harvard College, Class of 1906 The Secretary assumes the responsibility for those errors which have undoubtedly occurred and for which he apolo gizes, hoping that members of the Class will call them to his attention. For omissions, however, those of our classmates are responsible who have scorned or neglected the duties of autobiography. Following the precedent of other classes the Class em ployed the Harvard Alumni Association in the preparation of this Report. The thanks of the Class are due the Association for the untiring care and effort which it has bestowed upon the work. Excerpt from Secretary's First Report: Harvard College, Class of 1906 To the Members of the Class of 1906: I submit to you, rather later than I had hoped, our first Class Report. This contains the history of our class while in college, statistics made up from the "class lives," and other matter related to our undergraduate life at Harvard. In addition, the report contains a list of the present addresses and occupations of our classmates so far as they are known to the Secretary. The exact form of the report, which might perhaps have been improved by laying more stress on some parts and less on others, is due to the fact that a Class Report is merely one of a long series of reports from all the Classes. Consequently it seems best to follow the precedent of previous reports in order that the statistical data may be uniform. The value of the reports, however, depends on their completeness. This can be attained only through the co-operation of all the members of the class in responding to the letters of the Secretary and in taking the initiative in volunteering facts about themselves. Let me thank those members of the class who responded promptly to my letters. To their interest the success of the report is due. Our thanks are also due to the editors of the undergraduate papers for the use of their files; to the secretaries of the clubs; to the graduates and undergraduates who have assisted in the preparation of this report; and especially to the members of the College Office, whose unfailing kindness and interest have made possible a complete and accurate use of the College Records. Excerpt from Harvard College: Class of 1906 To the Class: The secretary submits herewith the Fourth Report of the Class of 1906 - as written by the members of the Class - revealing, in its individual reports, despite the modesty with which they are clothed, a record of personal achievement of which the class, individually and collectively, may well be proud. But since the province of the secretary is to edit, not to expound, his report will be limited to a foreword explaining the arrangements which have been adopted for presenting the information in his possession. The names of all the members of the class are given in a general list, entitled "Members of the Class," which includes all men at any time affiliated with the class and not dropped from the list by request. This general list is followed by and divided into four groups: I. Autobiographies and addresses, as reported to the secretary, of all members of the class who submitted reports. II. Necrology, giving the names of those members who have died, with a biographical sketch, whenever obtainable, of those who have died since publication of the last report. III. Men Not Heard From, a list of the living members of the class, other than Lost Men, who did not respond to the Secretary's requests for information, together with their last known addresses. Of these men 66 did not reply either for the last report or for this report, and 47 replied for the last report but did not reply for this report, making a total of 113, about 13 per cent of the members of the class who have failed to give their classmates the pleasure of reading about them. There is doubtless some valid reason why many of them did not reply. It may be that some of them did not receive either of the three successive blanks mailed to them, but all men whose addresses were proven to be incorrect by the return of envelopes addressed to them, were transferred to the list of Lost Men. IV. Lost Men, a list of members of whom the secretary has no address, or whose last known address is known to be incorrect. Excerpt from Secretary's Third Report; June, 1916: Harvard College, Class of 1906 Your Secretary presents to you herewith, printed and bound in a form as convenient as may be, the collection of your own accounts of your lives since graduation. Al though great efforts were devoted to making this Report more complete than the last, and although many of the men who were not heard from four years ago have sent in re plies this time, the total number who have failed to reply is almost the same. Your Secretary hopes that by the Twenty fifth Anniversary of our graduation every member of the Class will have given at least one account of himself. The number of lost men is fortunately small.
