The Spencer State Hospital at Spencer, West Virginia was completed in 1893 to relieve the crowded conditions at the Weston State Hospital. But, in 1992, the author did his own exploration of the facility. What he experienced inside the dark, creepy lunatic asylum convinced him that there might be a lot of truth to the rumors, and he feels lucky to have made it out alive. A huge retail store now stands on the spot where the long gone mental hospital once stood.
