A literature review was conducted on the relatively newly recognized phenomenon of religious addiction within Christianity. The symptoms, beliefs, and stages of religious addiction along with the characteristics of religiously addictive organizations are also considered. In addition a religious attitudes inventory was designed to assess general spirituality, religious addictive beliefs, religious addictive symptoms, and church leadership practices. The author surveyed ministers, psychologists, psychiatrists, and the general public to assess the relationship between religious addiction and church leadership. More specifically, the purpose of this survey was to attempt to determine if religious addictive beliefs and symptoms are more positively correlated with churches structured upon a self- selected (authoritarian hierarchial) style of leadership versus an elected (collegial) style of church leadership. In the latter, power and authority is equally vested in each of a number of elected church leaders. The results of this survey suggest the possibility of a positive correlation between the self-selected minister group and their responses to religious addictive beliefs and symptoms. Further study of a prospective nature with larger samples is necessary to define this relationship more clearly. Additional research with onsite observation and assessments is necessary to adequately verify the possible link between religious addiction and church leadership practices. Future research must replicate this study with different samples to determine whether results obtained in the present survey generalize to similar groups.

Have you ever wondered about the Mysteries of God’s wisdom or the secret to knowledge? Jesus condemned the religious leaders of his day for taking away the “Key to Knowledge,” (Luke 11:52). This remarkable article anthology may have accidentally uncovered some of these ancient mysteries that are now considered TABOO - to help you to read and really understand the Bible. Less Could the 7 Pillars or dimensions of Wisdom (Pro. 9:1) possibly be related to the “Key to Knowledge?” Hidden Bible Taboos began as one short essay that just for fun proposed a “7 Dimension Theory of Everything” but several readers encouraged me to continue researching it, and I soon discovered that it is the nature of the Universe for things to exist in 7’s. For example, there are 7 types of Matter and 7 forms of Energy in the universe. When we consider “Time,” the 7 Day calendar week continues to be universal and immemorial in its observance among all nations and in all times. Space - our earthly physical space is divided up into 7 Continents, 7 Oceans, and 7 Seas. After studying the multiple patterns of 7s in the universe’s numerical DNA, I turned my focus to ancient cultures and was shocked to find that in the ancient wisdom writings including Christianity, the number 7 stands for spiritual perfection and divine completeness. For example, the Bible’s book of Isaiah mentions the 7 Spirits of God the Father (Isaiah 11:2). The Apostle John mentions the 7 Stars of God the Son (Rev. 1:20), and the Apostle Paul mentions the 7 Gifts of God the Holy Spirit (Rom. 12:6-8). In addition, Zechariah mentions the 7 Eyes of the Lord, which range throughout the earth (Zech. 4:10). This incredible phenomenon of multiples of 7 cannot be explained by chance or human design. It is in these “7 Pillars of God’s Wisdom,” that I have experienced a paradigm shift that has opened my eyes to see this divine tapestry to gain a better understanding of the Bible. The 7 Dimension articles were written as independent brief essays over a period of 7 years. After receiving comments from many readers over the years (sometimes secretly) a theme became apparent that seemed to be pointing to the fact that these divine truths of the 7 dimensional (7D) biblical patterns of 7 were not being taught by the professional religious leaders of Catholic and Protestant Churches, because they were forbidden by custom or tradition. They are TABOO. This compilation of independent articles indirectly provides a historical overview of the ancient world that leads up to the time of Jesus and the Early Church, and reveals some Taboos related to sex, drugs, violence and racism. The majority of the Taboos in this book however, are not related to ancient mysterious pagan practices. The most significant Taboos in this book are coming from professional church leaders of organized religions of Christianity today who forbid their church members from knowing and practicing what is written in the New Testament, and commanded by Jesus and his Apostles. Hidden Bible Taboos is a collection of these 7D articles that have accidentally uncovered and systematically integrated ancient religious mythologies; archeological mysteries; scientific and historical facts; and End Time prophecies to reveal the "Christian Sun-god" conspiracy. It is not a formal theological treatise on spirituality and/or religion as it is a work in progress that is very, very far from perfect. With the above disclaimer to having and/or knowing the absolute truth, I would like to present what I believe to be the 7 dimension (7D) origins of ancient religious knowledge and ageless wisdom that have been passed down to us by our ancestors - So put on your 7D glasses! Dedication: This book is dedicated to Peter Waldo (Founder of the Waldensians) and the 50 million other Christians who were persecuted and slaughtered by the Organized Religion of Christianity (Papacy) in the middle ages and later. Spiritual/Religious Reading Material Warning: The contents of this article anthology may shock and inspire you into developing your spiritual life. Don't let yourself or your friends go without reading this life-changing book!

The most destructive Frankenstein was created "in the name of God", among Brazilians in Somerville, Massachusetts. An unhealthy faith system it was established. As a result, many Brazilians may not trust any authority. They are becoming unable to discern who supports their integrity, and who not. Visibly, the mental health of some religious leaders became an issue. The questions that arise at the intersection of faith and mental illness are not easily answered. It is impossible to deny the damage caused by some leaders around the Boston greater area. Faith has been destroyed, lives have been lost and an entire generation has been spiritually, emotionally and psychologically mutilated. This book represents an action to take responsibility before God and the second generation of Brazilians in the United States. In order to understand the reasons behind this process of "deconversion" the challenge is to consider some aspects of religious addictions, mental health and spirituality. The Brazilian community has been diagnosed with a "spiritual tumor". This illness has the potential for causing isolation. Unless addressed, this sense of isolation and unproductive faith can be ongoing. Many of the Brazilians feel that their faith has been stolen, and it's time to take it back. Authentic accountability with each other could be the very thing that re-ignites our passion for Christ and His kingdom. Rev. Dr. Regina Pinto-Moura The Rev. Dr. Regina Pinto-Moura pastors the Shalom International Baptist Community in Somerville, Massachusetts. She also serves side by side with her husband, the Rev. Dr. Jota Moura Rocha. Ordained in Massachusetts in 2003, Regina earned a Masters in Counseling Psychology and Addiction from Cambridge College, Cambridge, MA. She has a Doctorate from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary for her studies in Ministry in Complex Urban Settings.

Recently, there has been a growing interest in biblically based approaches to counseling by spirit filled evangelical scholars and counseling psychologists. They are integrating the research of psychology and religion particularly the Christian Faith, for rehabilitative efforts. Since a review of a number of recidivism studies in various states and in the Federal prison system leads to the conclusion that roughly two-thirds of the offenders released from prison will be reimprisoned, usually for committing new offenses, within a 3-year period, there is a great need for change in our correctional counseling philosophies. When we consider that a large percentage of the inmates that go to jail and prison return to the community unchanged, it can paint a pretty frightening picture of how unsafe our communities really are. Therefore, I believe that it is the church's responsibility to provide an extensive counseling ministry to prisoners through the transformation by the power of Jesus in regeneration and the use of biblical psychological research. This book will focus on the past and present psychological research which has enhanced the integration of psychology and religion. Sweeping generalizations and testimonies of success, unsupported by factual data will not be presented. Articles supporting the idea that Christian conversion is a valid experience in the development of a positive identity will be provided. In addition, an examination of prisoner mental states will be recognized and responded to from a biblical counseling perspective. The design of this investigation will be based upon evaluating certain fundamental Christian behavior characteristics of the conversion experience with the process of personal identity formation. The central theme throughout this book will purport that the Christian faith can play a vital role in the correctional process of an inmate's social adjustment and reintegration into the community.

"Since I serve an awesome God, I am able to give hope to the hopeless and love to the unlovable." At one point I felt unlovable, hopeless, chaotic, and undeserving of anything good. The pain and despair nearly killed me. No drug, drink, meeting, woman, money, fame, or power could ever have fixed me. It has been my personal relationship with Christ that has healed those wounds. As you read what God has placed on my heart, please know that without Him, I am nothing; but because of Him I can share with you... How God Sanitized My Soul. -----Born and raised in a Christian home, Jonathan had plenty of Bible knowledge, but what he didn't have was a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. How God Sanitized My Soul is a personal account of Jonathan's journey from the depths of drug addiction to starting a recovery ministry at his church in Hawaii, a transformation for which he gives all the glory to Christ alone.

King Kamehameha the Great had 30 wives. Ka'ahumanu (c.1768-1832) was his favorite. Descended from Oceanian voyagers, she grew up in a society completely isolated from the rest of the world, her life enmeshed in dynastic wars and constrained by an elaborate system of taboos. In 1778, she was shocked by the arrival of alien ships, followed by an influx of foreigners. In their wake came devastating epidemics. Seizing power after the King's death, Ka'ahumanu overturned those taboos and guided her nation through revolutionary change, crucial to the Hawaiian Islands' unification. Through sicknesses, romances, infidelities, murders, rebellions, pardons, travels, missionary work, and more, her story challenges many beliefs about American history, Christianity, and gender. Further, it has implications for current debates about immigration, sexuality, and religious diversity. Drawing on seldom-analyzed French and Russian sources, this biography covers neglected aspects of Ka'ahumanu's life. The many spouses and lovers she and Kamehameha had, the roles played by Central Europeans, African-Americans, Catholics and Unitarians in her realm, and struggles with religious pluralism are all included.

We face a profound problem in this country and around the world, the plague of drug addiction. Lives are being lost and destroyed. Many people are affected by this issue in some way, via family members, friends, or co-workers. The question is, "How can people find true healing of the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs involved in their addiction?" The author proposes leading addicted people to faith in Jesus Christ. Jesus and the Addict: 12 Bible Studies for People Getting Free from Drugs is designed to help leaders in Christian faith-based recovery to guide those who come to their communities toward continuous freedom from drugs. The book contains twelve studies with biblical guidance on varying issues with which people in recovery struggle such as overcoming fear, learning to have hope, overcoming resentment, and dealing with forgiveness. Jesus Christ is the answer in all these things. Deepened relationship with Him and the transforming effect of His power and love bring redemption and new life. The book is intended for pastors, mentors, sponsors, and teachers - anyone working in jail, prison, transitional communities, or in churches to help recovering addicts. The studies are designed to be shared in large group settings, a speaker providing the teaching talk. Following that teaching time, the large group can then break out into small groups for discussion of the teaching. However, this material is workable within a single small group as well as a large one - the small group hearing the talk less formally and then discussing it. Each of the twelve lessons contains a verse or key verses from the Bible about a particular topic. Those Bible verses form the basis of the lesson. There is then a section with discussion about the background and state of mind of people seeking recovery for the speaker to consider about those who will be in the listening audience. The author's experience has largely been with people who are lower income or poor, but addiction affects all classes of society, and both urban and rural populations. The concepts discussed in the background and state of mind section are adaptable to varying recovery audiences. A prayer for the speaker is included next. Following the prayer, there is a sample talk section where some key points are given. This talk can be modified to fit the speaker's own experiences and their audience. And each chapter concludes with sample questions that can be used to stimulate conversation within your recovery group. The book also contains teaching and theology about the nature of God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. An explanation of the cross event, resurrection, and the meaning of the Holy Spirit in the life of believers is explained such that people in recovery can understand God as being full of grace and as a source of great empowerment. The presentation of the present-day healing ministry of Christ gives hope to the addict that they can permanently be freed from drugs and feel the lifting of guilt and shame. They can also take their place as a useful and contributing part of the kingdom of God and in society. Dr. Pam Morrison, the author, is an ordained pastor from the Free Methodist Church. She has led or helped to lead six churches. She has volunteered with Prison Fellowship and has ministered with addicts in several settings. Her belief is that medical and secular means have been and are used to help addicts, but the greatest help anyone can receive to achieve permanent freedom is to find faith in Jesus Christ. So much more help is needed for addicts and families of addicts. We are short on places and those who will walk steadfastly with people seeking recovery. This is a ministry urgently needed in this hour.
