He explores how therapy can help or hinder the process of transformation. Written for men who are looking for a new way of understanding their predicament as well as psychotherapists and counsellors working with men, Healing the Male Psyche is packed with useful information and exercises and supported by a wide range of references.

Power, money, physical appearance - traditionally, masculinity has been measured by standard little related to the inner reaches of the soul. In [this book] Robert Hopcke frames masculine psychology within the innermost of realms: dreams. In sharing his dreamwork with two men - one homosexual, one heterosexual - over years of therapy, Hopcke spotlights several recurrent themes in the psychology of contemporary men, including a lack of feeling awareness, fear of intimacy, authority issues, and the experience of fatherhood. Drawing on the work of Jung as well as Greek myths and Christian symbolism, Hopcke uses the inner journeys of these two men to move the reader toward a new understanding of what it means to be male in modern times.

The social perception of masculinity is very black and white: one is either an Alpha Male or a Beta Male, and there can be no variation. However, this is not the reality of masculinity in today's society. Non-Alpha Males exist somewhere in the middle of the masculinity spectrum and are far more common than most people realize. These Non-Alpha Males are prone to developmental and behavioral issues caused by gender role conflict, toxic shame, and complex trauma. These, as well as the role of parenting, attachment and abuse issues, gender constructs and socialization, and the resulting addiction, sexual issues, and self-loathing, are explored in Childhood Trauma and the Non-Alpha Male Dr. Carpenter's book offers healthy resolutions through self-acceptance and psychological health. With stories of experiences from actual Non-Alpha Male clients bringing the theoretical into reality, Childhood Trauma and the Non-Alpha Male helps offer healing through hope, clarity, healing, and change.

The Wounded Male written by Steven Farmer and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1992 with Psychology categories.

Modern men are wounded by historical and cultural developments as well as by specific family problems. Traditional masculinity is a straitjacket that forces men to repress all their emotions under an "I-can-handle-it" facade -- a facade that enourages men to become emotionally numb, unable to feel joy as well as sadness. But men don't have to live this way. THE WOUNDED MALE describes the sources and consequences of the many wounds men receive from society and family, including the "father wound" (how the physical or emotional absence of a father or a father-as-rigid-disciplinarian can profoundly affect a growing boy) and the "mother wound" (which is rooted in the extremes of too much mothering -- engulfing -- or too little mothering -- abandoning). Farmer personalizes his analysis with examples from his own life and the lives of other men. He shows that healing the wounds of manhood is not a one-shot deal, but a long, slow journey of self-discovery. Whether you are just setting out on that journey or wish to travel farther and deeper, you will find THE WOUNDED MALE an indispensable companion.

Revisioning Male Psychology written by Aaron R. Kipnis and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1991 with categories.

This dissertation forms new theoretical links between concepts concerning the "nature" of masculinity and the influence of "nurture" upon it. The thrust of the argument is that masculinity is poorlyunderstood by psychology and that its masculine ideals primarily emergeout of 1) Nineteenth century empirical science as reflected by contemporaryJudeo-Christian, Western culture. 2) The revisions of 20th century anima-focused and feminist theory. In an attempt to revision modem, masculine stereotypes which generate increasing rates of pathology for contemporary men, this dissertation contrasts the personal revelations of many men concerning their true inner nature with ancient and cross-cultural images emerging from the mythologies of diverse cultures. New templates are then drawn, through which one can view men's lives and behavior. This new paradigm supports the life-affirming, creative, vital and nurturing capacities of men while remaining in balance with nature and the sociopolitical needs of women. This new image of masculinity may also serve the amelioration of many gender- specific, male pathologies. This work does not continue the move of recent decades by encouraging men to "get in touch" with their femininity. Nor does this work, in the style of male, anti-feminist, backlash literature, harken back to the anachronistic, dominating and heroic model of masculinity. Rather a third view emergesa modern, psyche-centered theory of deep masculinity. A hard, deconstructive look is taken at some dysfunctional contemporary beliefs regarding the ontological nature of masculinity. One finding is that in many arenas, what is needed is not change, but rather, positive regard for, and understanding of the essential ways in which males are different and uniquely contribute to relationships and culture. Reverse sexism and negative counter-transference issues toward men are explored. A critical look at the scientific literature on gender differences is taken. Specific suggestions for new training courses are offered, including detailed information about gender- specific, male styles of language, posture, nuance and feeling, including the implications these have for approaching the individuation and healing of men. Suggestions for new, male-specific treatment methodologies in the practice of psychotherapy are made, including an in-depth investigation of the value of nonprofessional groups.
