This book, Healing the Wounds of Spiritual Abuse, bears a very close resemblance to the author's previous, 2015 publication, Deadly Toxins of Unhealthy Churches. It carries a similar message as the earlier volume. Many victims of spiritual abuse are in greater need of healing than of learning about the intricacies of abusive churches, and so after much thought and prayer, it was decided to publish another related volume that puts greater emphasis on the healing process and less on the dynamics of toxic churches. So if you have already read the earlier volume you may want to consider whether or not to purchase this one. Having come to the realization that they were involved with an abusive church, many victims of such churches find themselves in an unending loop of distress, anger, resentment, grief and feelings of abandonment. Their sojourn in a cultic group is over but the pain remains. This publication emphasizes; the process of departing such churches, healing the emotional wounds, forgiveness, trust, reconciliation, personal restoration and a modern day transformation of a cultic church towards orthodoxy. As a friend of mine recently reminded me 'Jesus came not just to save the lost, but to set the captives free as well. This book emphasizes and points the way to freedom for anyone who has ever been hurt by toxic Christianity.

Why does God hate me? How can I believe in a God who has allowed my suffering? These are just two of the difficult spiritual questions that survivors of child sexual abuse struggle with. In addition, survivors often have mixed feelings about thechurch because of perceived judgment and indifference, their own shame, or their discomfort with certain aspects of worship. Of the many after-effects of sexual abuse, spiritual wounds are the least talked about, yet they are central to adult survivors who seek to heal and find faith and meaning in their lives. With grace and gentleness, this book seeks to answer survivors' spiritual questions and address some of the common misconceptions that often develop when young victims attempt to understand what has happened to them. Healing the Ravaged Soul explores the origins of their spiritual issues with clear psychological insights and guides survivors on a spiritual journey toward healing, wholeness, and a deeper relationship with God.

Healing Spiritual Wounds written by Carol Howard Merritt and has been published by HarperCollins this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-02-07 with Religion categories.

An effective plan to help those suffering from wounds inflicted by the church find spiritual healing and a renewed sense of faith. Raised as a conservative Christian, minister and author Carol Howard Merritt discovered that the traditional institutions she grew up in inflicted great pain and suffering on others. Though she loved the spirituality the church provided, she knew that, because of sexism, homophobia, and manipulative religious politics, established religious institutions weren’t always holy or safe. Instead of offering refuge, these institutions have betrayed people’s hearts and souls. “People have suffered religious abuse,” she writes, “which can be different from physical injury or psychological trauma.” Though participation and affiliation in traditional religious institutions is waning, many people still believe in God. Merritt contends that many leave the church because they have lost trust in the institution, not in God. Healing Spiritual Wounds addresses the church’s dichotomous image—as a safe space and as a dangerous place—and provides a way to restore personal faith and connection to God for those who have been hurt or betrayed by established institutions of faith. Merritt lays out a multistage plan for moving from pain to spiritual rebirth, from recovering theological and emotional shards to recovering communal wholeness. Merritt does not sugarcoat the wrongs institutions long seen as trustworthy have inflicted on many innocent victims. Sympathetic, understanding, and deeply positive, she offers hope and a way to help them heal and reclaim the spiritual joy that can make them whole again.

Like restoring a vintage painting to its original splendor, God seeks to restore his father position with us, but this process can be hindered when we see him through the distorted image of our earthly fathers. Since most people come from less than perfect homes, it is often difficult to see God the way he wants us to see him: as a loving father. Many of us are living out the legacy of father wounds inflicted during our childhood. Healing the Father Wound is the perfect tool for anyone wanting to learn how to move forward toward emotional and spiritual maturity, regardless of their past.
