Brands are designed to build relationships between consumers and the products, services, or organizations they represent by providing added value to their objects. Through brand promotion, consumers form associations with brands, which can become established and lead to a long-term relationship between the product, service or organization and consumer. Similarly, public health brands are the associations that individuals hold for health behaviours or lifestyles. Public health branding - building positive associations with healthy behaviours and lifestyle choices - is the primary strategy by which commercial marketing is applied in health communication and social marketing. This book examines theory and best practices of branding and its application in public health programs. Through a series of reviews and case studies, the book argues that branding is an emerging public health strategy that needs resources and continued development of innovative methodologies to effect lasting population-level change. In recent years, public health branding has been successfully applied across a wide range of chronic and infectious disease issues and behaviours - from tobacco control to HIV/AIDS - and globally across the developed and developing world. Branding is an important strategy for public health because it can address multiple behaviours simultaneously, and most health risks stem from multiple behaviours and complex lifestyle choices. Promoting healthy lifestyles is the key outcome for public health, thus making the development of improved branding strategies a critical objective for the field.

The Role Of Emotions In Preventative Health Communication written by Jessica Gall Myrick and has been published by Lexington Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-09-17 with Health & Fitness categories.

Health-related media permeate our modern experience, from using an online search engine to reading a pamphlet about vaccinations at the doctor’s office or watching a television news report on the dangers of sitting too much. This book makes the argument that if prevention-focused health messages are to motivate behavior change, they must tug at the heartstrings, and researchers need to understand more precisely how different emotional reactions influence health message effects. In making this case, this book takes a quantitative, social science-based approach to understanding the role of emotions in shaping individual-level effects to preventative health messages disseminated through mass media channels. The book focuses on how discrete emotions evoked by preventative health media messages influence how audiences respond to those messages. Are they persuaded to change their behavior? Will they seek more information? Will they share information with others? Will they support prevention-focused policies? While a rich literature exists on the effects of health-related fear appeals on audiences, researchers have yet to fully explore the role that other discrete emotions play in health communication processes and outcomes. This book fills that gap by providing an overview of the role of nine different emotions—both positive and negative—in various prevention-focused health communication settings. It also introduces readers to commonly employed emotional theories and concepts and relates them to literature on prevention-focused health and policy communication. In addition to reviewing and synthesizing the literature, this book offers new directions to researchers hoping to improve the effectiveness of prevention-focused health messages.
