Why, despite vast resources being expended on health and health care, is there still so much ill health and premature death? Why do massive inequalities in health, both within and between countries, remain? In this devastating critique, internationally renowned health economist Gavin Mooney places the responsibility for these problems firmly at the door of neoliberalism. Mooney analyses how power is exercised both in health-care systems and in society more generally. In doing so, it reveals how too many vested interests hinder efficient and equitable policies to promote healthy populations, while too little is done to address the social determinants of health. Instead, Mooney argues, health services and health policy more generally should be returned to the communities they serve. Taking in a broad range of international case studies - from the UK to the US, South Africa to Cuba - this provocative book places issues of power and politics in health care systems centre stage, making a compelling case for the need to re-evaluate how we approach health care globally.

In the United States, some populations suffer from far greater disparities in health than others. Those disparities are caused not only by fundamental differences in health status across segments of the population, but also because of inequities in factors that impact health status, so-called determinants of health. Only part of an individual's health status depends on his or her behavior and choice; community-wide problems like poverty, unemployment, poor education, inadequate housing, poor public transportation, interpersonal violence, and decaying neighborhoods also contribute to health inequities, as well as the historic and ongoing interplay of structures, policies, and norms that shape lives. When these factors are not optimal in a community, it does not mean they are intractable: such inequities can be mitigated by social policies that can shape health in powerful ways. Communities in Action: Pathways to Health Equity seeks to delineate the causes of and the solutions to health inequities in the United States. This report focuses on what communities can do to promote health equity, what actions are needed by the many and varied stakeholders that are part of communities or support them, as well as the root causes and structural barriers that need to be overcome.

I assume that life expectancy will be better, if the country has better economic growth or it improves its economic growth. I shall indicate the reasons include as below: Firstly on relationship hand, I believe that it has relationship between income and health or life expectancy hand, due to the country can develop or grow up or grow its economy to remain long term good economic development. So, its citizen can have more jobs supply to do to treat any sickness. So, they will have effort to buy different kinds of medicine to eat in order to raise more healthier. It seems that some economists support long term good economic growth will bring the country's medical development, e.g. many hospitals can have more effort money to spend to research any new kinds of medicines to let patients to choose the most health medicines to eat, when patietns have different kinds of medicines to choose to eat in order to choose to eat th enough nutrition improvement of different kinds of medicines. Then, the country's patients will have more chance to treat their sickness to be improved health. Hence, it seems that hospitals will have enough money to research, when the country has long term better economic growth condition. When the country can remain long term better environment growth improvement, it can lead many jobs to be supplied to people to work and they will have more income to save to buy any expensive medicines, if they are facing serious sickenss, e.g. cancer. Then, they can buy this cancer medicines to eat to treat cancer disease ( non common sickness) in order to be more healthier. Thus, economic growth can lead medical industry has enough money to carry on researching any new kinds of medicines to attempt to treat any serious diseases in order to provide different kinds of new medicines to human to eat to treat any serious diseases more healthier. For example, U.S., U.K. these both developed countries can remain long term good economic groth. So, these both countries have enough money to assist domestic hospitals to carry on researching any new kinds of medicines to let patients to choose the most effective or more healthier medicines to let patients eat to attempt to treat their serious diseases more successfully. So, U.S., U.K. serious diseases of patients whose death ratio is decreasing in these two countries as well as their death ratio, due to serious diseases causing is the least to compare to other countries.Secondly, I shall indicate on the improvement in health and economic growth hand, how any why it has relationship between improvement of human health and economic health. I shall focuse in particular on the question of how much of the improvement in health can be attributed. The improvements in the health can include that human's living of standard, better nutrition, changes in the public health environment, it includes sanitation and supply of clean water. Finally an improvement in medical technology, for example, both sanitation improvements and treatment with antibiotics will reduce mortality from infectious diseases. However, we can explain why economic growth and improvements of human's health, which has relationship. It can be measured by mortality, it can be linked to specific changes in both ages at which people, i.e. an increase age of the number of patients to disease, such as U.S., U.K. these both countries, the number of old age people who have serious diseases of the total population ratio is less than the developing countries, e.g. China, Africa. It is possible to explain because these both countries have stable long term better economic growth to compare these both developing countries.

World Inequality Report 2018 is the most authoritative and up-to-date account of global trends in inequality. Researched, compiled, and written by a team of the world's leading economists of inequality, it presents--with unrivaled clarity and depth--information and analysis that will be vital to policy makers and scholars everywhere. Inequality has taken center stage in public debate as the wealthiest people in most parts of the world have seen their share of the economy soar relative to that of others, many of whom, especially in the West, have experienced stagnation. The resulting political and social pressures have posed harsh new challenges for governments and created a pressing demand for reliable data. The World Inequality Lab at the Paris School of Economics and the University of California, Berkeley, has answered this call by coordinating research into the latest trends in the accumulation and distribution of income and wealth on every continent. This inaugural report analyzes the Lab's findings, which include data from major countries where information has traditionally been difficult to acquire, such as China, India, and Brazil. Among nations, inequality has been decreasing as traditionally poor countries' economies have caught up with the West. The report shows, however, that inequality has been steadily deepening within almost every nation, though national trajectories vary, suggesting the importance of institutional and policy frameworks in shaping inequality. World Inequality Report 2018 will be a key document for anyone concerned about one of the most imperative and contentious subjects in contemporary politics and economics.

Wellbeing Economy written by Lorenzo Fioramonti and has been published by Pan Macmillan South africa this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-08-04 with Political Science categories.

Economic growth is a constant mantra of politicians, economists and the media. Few understand what it is, but they love and follow it blindly. The reality is that since the global financial crisis, growth has vanished in the more industrialised economies and in the so-called developing countries. Politicians may be panicking, but is this really a bad thing? Using real-life examples and innovative research, acclaimed political economist Lorenzo Fioramonti lays bare society’s perverse obsession with economic growth by showing its many flaws, paradoxes and inconsistencies. He argues that the pursuit of growth often results in more losses than gains and in damage, inequalities and conflicts. By breaking free from the growth mantra, we can build a better society that puts the wellbeing of all at its centre. A wellbeing economy would have tremendous impact on everything we do, boosting small businesses and empowering citizens as the collective leaders of tomorrow. Wellbeing Economy is a manifesto for radical change in South Africa and beyond.

Toward A Healthy And Harmonious Life In China written by World Bank and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011 with categories.

China's 12th five-year plan (2011-2015) aims to promote inclusive, equitable growth and development by placing an increased emphasis on human development. Good health is an important component of human development, not only because it makes people's lives better, but also because having a healthy and long life enhances their ability to learn, acquire skills, and contributes to society. Indeed, good health is a fundamental right of every human being. Good health among a population can also enhance economic performance by improving labor productivity and reducing economic losses that arise from illnesses. The findings and recommendations can inform and promote a broad dialogue toward the development of a multisectoral response to effectively address the growing burden of Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs), including a better alignment of the health system with the population's health needs. The report also advocates implementing 'health in all' policies and actions for a multisectoral response to NCDs in China to help achieve the ultimate goal of 'harmonious' development and growth.
