“Hearing the Truth in Cana of Galilee,” the second book of “The New Way Series,” is based on the first century manuscript “Acts of the Apostles” written by Luke. “Looking Through the Eyes of a Child,” the first book of the series, introduced children who have now grown up and become adults in one of the most turbulent times in history. There was an amazing transformation in society immediately after the death and resurrection of Jesus. Jerusalem was shaken to its very roots by the teachings of Jesus. His New Way of living impacted men vs. women, free men vs. slaves, Jew vs. Gentile, and religion vs. the teachings of Jesus. Cana is a small village located about sixty-five miles north of Jerusalem. “Hearing the Truth in Cana of Galilee” explores how the New Way began to move from Jerusalem and into the surrounding areas. It began to impact every aspect of daily life. Imagine how the citizens of Cana might have heard about the New Way. Visualize them learning to follow Jesus' teachings. There was no Bible to follow. Word of mouth was the only way the New Way could spread, yet Jesus had predicted that it would spread like wildfire and cover the entire world. What would it be like to grow up, fall in love, choose your career, and experience life’s journey, impacted by individuals who had actually traveled with Jesus? How would this New Way change their lives and turn their world upside down? “Hearing the Truth in Cana of Galilee” tells the story of many citizens of the tiny village of Cana. Some of these are young adults who were introduced as children in “Looking Through the Eyes of a Child.” As they grow and develop, they discover that following the New Way grows their love in Book 3, “Growing the Love in Cana of Galilee.”

“Growing the Love in Cana of Galilee” is the third book of “The New Way Series.” It is based on the first century manuscript “Acts of the Apostles” written by Luke. The first century was a turbulent time of history. Society was changing primarily because of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. In Book #1 of the series, “Looking Through the Eyes of a Child,” we met some of the characters, and in Book #2, “Hearing the Truth in Cana of Galilee,” we explored how the happenings in Jerusalem began to gradually impact the little village of Cana sixty-five miles to the north. In this book, “Growing the Love in Cana of Galilee,” these same characters grow to become more like Jesus in how and who they love. The New Way of living caused Orly and Gabriela’s love to grow and deepen. As they and their friends followed the New Way, they began to care deeply about those in slavery and treat them in a way that caused others to take notice. This love began to impact the local synagogue and introduced amazing changes. “Growing the Love in Cana of Galilee” explores the internal changes that these young adults experienced as they broke with the traditions of the past and embraced the New Way. Their treatment of slaves was not the only radical transformation. Watch as they learn to love not only people of other beliefs, but also a group who were their political enemies and ruling occupiers of their homeland. Visualize the new followers of Jesus learning to love others the way Jesus loved. There was no Bible to follow. Yet, step by tiny step the Holy Spirit was teaching them to grow in love. Watch as these same characters discover that following the New Way may take them on difficult paths in “Following the Way in Cana of Galilee,” Book #4 of “The New Way Series.”

“Following the Way in Cana of Galilee” is Book #4 of “The New Way Series.” It is based on the first century manuscript “Acts of the Apostles” written by Luke. The first century was a turbulent time of history. Society was changing primarily because of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. After His resurrection, there was no Bible to follow, and various groups broke away and began to practice their own beliefs based primarily on tradition. In this book, characters from the previous books continue to grow and mature. Their faith is tested by troubles and hardships. They encounter radical teachings that rock them to the core of their beings. We see God calling some of them to leave Cana in order to share the New Way with others — some sacrificially choosing to remain single and traveling to unknown lands, giving up the comforts of home. Jesus said He was the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Come and see how following the Way impacted these young adults in “Following the Way in Cana of Galilee.” Watch as they boldly follow the Way by loving people that were considered their worst enemies — the Romans who ruled their homeland. Watch them follow, sometimes reluctantly, but ultimately triumphantly, where the Way led them. I hope you will look forward to meeting some new characters and hearing the story of the New Way impacting Capernaum, a much larger city in Galilee almost 90 miles north of Jerusalem. Book #5 of “The New Way Series” is entitled “Searching for Answers in Capernaum.”

"One of the first great events in Christian history was the Council of Nicaea in 325 AD, convened to organize Christian sects and beliefs into a unified doctrine. The great Christian clergymen who wrote before this famous event are referred to as the Ante-Nicenes and the Apostolic Fathers, and their writings are collected here in a ten-volume set. The Ante-Nicenes lived so close to the time of Christ that their interpretations of the New Testament are considered more authentic than modern voices. But they are also real and flawed men, who are more like their fellow Christians than they are like the Apostles, making their words echo in the ears of spiritual seekers. In Volume III of the 10-volume collected works of the Ante-Nicenes first published between 1885 and 1896, readers will find three of Tertullian?'s most famous writings. In Apologetic, Tertullian addresses the powers that be in Rome, demanding that Christians be accepted and tolerated by Roman law. In Anti-Marcion, Tertullian attacks and discusses heretics. And in Ethical he discusses a variety of moral questions."

"Encountering Differences in Antioch of Syria" is the seventh book of "The New Way Series." It is based on the first century manuscript "Acts of the Apostles" written by Luke. We have seen how the New Way might have moved from Jerusalem to both villages and large cities in Galilee, but Luke records that it also began to impact the surrounding countries -- countries that had once been considered archenemies of Israel. The city of Antioch was established by Alexander the Great, but when the Romans took control, they desired to make it the capital city of the region. They provided incentives of property, jobs, housing, and religious freedom. As a result, Antioch soon became the third largest city of the Roman Empire and was filled with people from many different nations. Many followers of Jesus and New Way groups relocated to Antioch. They encountered people from all over the known world, and specifically Pharisees from Jerusalem who were intent on destroying the New Way. Once again, I have chosen to imagine what it must have been like for some of the characters who were introduced in Book #1 of the New Way Series to become adults and relocate to Antioch of Syria. They expected to be in the minority. They were prepared to face the misunderstanding of other religions. But they were surprised to discover that some of the hardest battles were keeping the peace with fellow followers. They had to deal with questions, conflicts, and disagreements as the New Way was being forged and strengthened by its battles. These young adults had to determine what they believed, and what they were willing to sacrifice in order to follow those beliefs. What would they give up in order to be obedient to Jehovah? Watch as these young friends of Jesus became adults in a strange land, far from home. And look forward to the final New Way Series Book #8, "Telling the World from Antioch of Syria," where they begin to face the high price of spreading the New Way deeper and deeper into the uttermost parts of the world.

"Telling the World from Antioch of Syria" is the final book of the New Way Series. Once again, I have chosen to develop the stories and characters introduced in the previous book. All of the books in this series have been based on the first century manuscript "Acts of the Apostles" written by Luke. Luke records that the New Way, which started in Jerusalem, moved through Israel and then to every nation in the known world. Luke ends his manuscript with a description of the New Way being taken to the city of Rome itself. Despite the conflicts and controversies that threaten to tear families, groups, and New Way worship gatherings apart, we see the New Way being spread farther and farther from Jerusalem. Some of those who feel called to foreign lands are well equipped and well financed, and only face the physical hazards of the journey. Others are young, inexperienced, and penniless. Yet surely and steadily the New Way spreads and takes root all around the Great Sea. Antioch becomes a launching pad and a headquarters for these New Way followers. Watch as the children who walked and talked with Jesus, introduced at the beginning of the series, continue their journeys by sending their own children and grandchildren into the great unknown. Imagine the sacrifices made to spread the New Way to those around them, near and far.
