Como parte de la interrelación con disciplinas como la literatura y la ecdótica, los Estudios de Traducción replantean la valoración de documentos como el manuscrito. Este libro resalta el hallazgo de algunos pasajes del trasvase, aún a mano, de Art de Clive Bell al español por Alfonso Reyes, que propician consideraciones un tanto novedosas sobre el proceso traductor. En un primer momento, la práctica traductora es construida como objeto de estudio para entenderla desde la elección del texto fuente. En seguida, el texto resultante de la práctica es analizado a partir de una serie de cualidades estéticas compartidas por agentes de la esfera artística, como Pedro Henríquez Ureña, primer receptor del documento. Para tal fin, el texto dialoga con un par de manuscritos de traducción de Julio Torri y se contrasta con la traducción previa hecha por Salvador Novo a la obra de Bell y publicada en México Moderno en septiembre de 1922. Finalmente, se reflexiona sobre el manuscrito de traducción como una materialización del proceso al que pocas veces se tiene oportunidad de observar. Es así como las repeticiones, las evaluaciones y los resultados subjetivamente ponderables que comporta el proceso hallan, entonces, una nueva ancla textual en el manuscrito. La brújula de los conceptos bourdieusianos permite el entrecruce de la materia estética con perspectivas abarcadoras, como la histórico-política, y la integración de fenómenos complejos que, a su vez, se suman a las miradas críticas que se han dirigido a la labor traductora de Reyes.

Francisco de Viedma: Marino y explorador español que jugó un papel importante en la colonización de la Patagonia en Argentina y la fundación de la ciudad de Viedma. Gonzalo de Doblas: Gobernador de la Provincia de Chiloé en Chile durante la colonización española, Doblas escribió extensamente sobre la geografía y las costumbres de la región. Pedro Andrés García: Fue un militar, geógrafo y botánico hispano-argentino que hizo importantes contribuciones a la exploración y documentación de Sudamérica. Sebastián Undiano y Gastelu: Aunque hay poca información disponible, parece que fue un importante funcionario colonial español en América del Sur. Ambrosio Cramer: Militar, cartógrafo y geógrafo español. Fue uno de los primeros europeos en hacer un mapeo detallado de la región sudamericana. Cada uno de estos autores, con sus propias experiencias y perspectivas, aportó al entendimiento de la geografía sudamericana durante el período colonial.
