Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (1770-1831) is considered a philosopher of the Tradition, both in the sense that his work is rooted in the political, artistic, religious, and philosophical traditions of European culture and in the sense that he takes up the notion of tradition as an object of philosophical investigation. This collection examines Hegel's philosophy as it bears on the meaning and relevance of tradition - historical, legal, aesthetic, religious, and philosophical. La questione del cominciamento è probabilmente il tema più dibattuto della filosofia hegeliana. Al di là degli studi di carattere storiografico, l’interpretazione della prima triade dialettica – Essere, Nulla, Divenire – ha costituito il fondamento più o meno esplicito di varie e complesse teorie filosofiche. Tuttavia, il problema dell'inizio appare illuminato in modo inedito muovendo dai concetti di essenza e riflessione, dedotti nel secondo libro della Scienza della Logica, la Dottrina dell’essenza. Qui si comprende come il cominciamento non appaia come il prodotto di un gesto arbitrario, ma in quanto risultato di una necessità intrinseca al dispiegamento dell’Idea. L’essere, che inizialmente “appare” come mero presupposto, si rivela in verità solo alla luce del movimento riflessivo, che lo pone come «ritorno in se stesso». L’inizio si comprende così come un’operazione interna alla riflessione che, sospendendo se stessa, toglie il proprio porre. Nella sua articolazione concettuale, la riflessione rappresenta una sorta di “logica della logica” e il luogo privilegiato per comprendere l’essenza della dialettica.
