An accessible course book on U.S.-Latin American relations “Our Hemisphere”? uncovers the range, depth, and veracity of the United States’ relationship with the Americas. Using short historical vignettes, Britta and Russell Crandall chart the course of inter‑American relations from 1776 to the present, highlighting the roles that individuals and groups of soldiers, intellectuals, private citizens, and politicians have had in shaping U.S. policy toward Latin America in the postcolonial, Cold War, and post–Cold War eras. The United States is usually and correctly seen as pursuing a monolithic, hegemonic agenda in Latin America, wielding political, economic, and military muscle to force Latin American countries to do its bidding, but the Crandalls reveal unexpected yet salient regional interactions where Latin Americans have exercised their own power with their northern and very powerful neighbor. Moreover, they show that Washington’s relationship with the region has relied, in addition to the usual heavy‑handedness, on cooperation and mutual respect since the beginning of the relationship.

For centuries, the Asians (Chinese, Indians, Muslims, and others) have been bystanders in world history. Now they are ready to become co-drivers. Asians have finally understood, absorbed, and implemented Western best practices in many areas: from free-market economics to modern science and technology, from meritocracy to rule of law. They have also become innovative in their own way, creating new patterns of cooperation not seen in the West. Will the West resist the rise of Asia? The good news is that Asia wants to replicate, not dominate, the West. For a happy outcome to emerge, the West must gracefully give up its domination of global institutions, from the IMF to the World Bank, from the G7 to the UN Security Council. History teaches that tensions and conflicts are more likely when new powers emerge. This, too, may happen. But they can be avoided if the world accepts the key principles for a new global partnership spelled out in The New Asian Hemisphere.

Children Of The Hemisphere written by Suzanne Hicken and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006 with Names, Geographical categories.

Children of the Hemisphere throws a spotlight on our practice of using the name of the New World, America, to designate just the United States. Our country is only a part of America, stretching east to west across the northern landmass of America. Author Suzanne Hicken shares opinions from ordinary people who live in different countries all over this hemisphere. Men and women from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America, and South America tell of the bond they feel for the name of their home. They also voice their feelings on the practice of using the word America to define only the United States. Children of the Hemisphere takes us back through the history of the practice, how it started, and how it has mushroomed in this century, to the point of almost obscuring the name that has defined the lands of the Western Hemisphere for the last 500 years.
