O personagem Charles Prendick é encontrado, náufrago, por um navio que transportava animais selvagens para uma pequena ilha no Pacífico. Moreau faz tudo aquilo para seu deleite estético e puro egoísmo de ser um cientista que chegou à perfeição, aquele em que pode "manipular" a evolução. Todos são "obras" de Moreau. E isso é o que choca mais a Prendick, a crueldade contida não pelo ódio, mas pelo simples prazer de o cientista ter a obsessão de recriar e aperfeiçoar a criação.Publicado em 1896, A ilha do dr.
