A Survey of Hidden-Variables Theories is a three-part book on the hidden-variable theories, referred in this book as ""theories of the first kind"". Part I reviews the motives in developing different types of hidden-variables theories. The quest for determinism led to theories of the first kind; the quest for theories that look like causal theories when applied to spatially separated systems that interacted in the past led to theories of the second kind. Parts II and III further describe the theories of the first kind and second kind, respectively. This book is written to make the literature on hidden variables comprehensible to those who are confused by the original papers with their controversies, and to average reader of physics papers.

Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Pages: 41. Chapters: Hidden variable theory, Latent variable models, Bell's theorem, Mixture model, Item response theory, Factor analysis, Latent Dirichlet allocation, Latent semantic analysis, Kochen-Specker theorem, Spekkens Toy Model, Local hidden variable theory, Partial least squares regression, Probabilistic latent semantic analysis, Latent class model, Local independence, Pachinko allocation, Nuisance variable, Topic model, Doubly stochastic model. Excerpt: In theoretical physics, Bell's theorem (a.k.a. Bell's inequality) is a no-go theorem, loosely stating that: no physical theory of local hidden variables can reproduce all of the predictions of quantum mechanics. The theorem has great importance for physics and the philosophy of science, as it implies that quantum physics must necessarily violate either the principle of locality or counterfactual definiteness . It is the most famous legacy of the late physicist John Stewart Bell. Results of tests of Bell's theorem agree with the predictions of quantum mechanical theory, and demonstrate that some quantum effects appear to travel faster than light. Hence the class of tenable 'hidden variable' theories are limited to the non-local variety. However, none of the tests of the theorem performed to date has fulfilled all of the requisite conditions implicit in the theorem. Accordingly, none of the results are totally conclusive. Bell's theorem implies that the concept of local realism, favoured by Einstein, yields predictions that disagree with those of quantum mechanical theory. Because numerous experiments agree with the predictions of quantum mechanical theory, and show correlations that are stronger than could be explained by local hidden variables, the concept of local realism is thus refuted as an explanation of the physical phenomena under test, and superluminal effects are...

In this revision: The electric charge of a subatomic particle is originated from its Orbital Angular Momentum (OAM). The electron mass is a magnitude that expresses quantitatively the square of its magnetic flux quantum. The proton, the neutron and all baryons consist of three energy levels on which the quarks are orbiting. The third energy level is equivalent to 80.5 Gev; it plays a role at decaying process through the weak force. The quark's OAM is a third or two thirds of the reduced Planck constant. The proton's missing spin is resolved by quarks OAM contribution. The electron is a bound state composition of a negative Pion and an electron Neutrino. The theory predicts a neutral boson of 160Gev (alongside to W+ boson from a 240Gev decaying particle). The 2007 data analysis at CDF (Tevatron) showed this possibility. Apparently this was a valid finding despite the final results. The 240Gev particle can also decay to two W+ and one W- Bosons instead of 160Gev Boson which makes it hard to be detected.

The Leto family have unique gifts. For centuries their ancestors have experienced a higher level of consciousness, beyond both life and time. The family are concerned about one couple who are destined to change the world. However, when Sophia Leto witnesses a murder in a vision from the past, involving a boy at her school, she unwittingly unravels a spiral of dark secrets and hidden emotions. Determined to catch a killer and save a life, Sophia must use her gifts to identify each individual’s choices, circumstances and pathway through life. The closer she looks, the more tangled and complicated their lives become and Sophia has to wonder, when does knowledge become too little or too much?

It has recently been shown that Bayesian networks with hidden variables represent a wider range of probabilistic distributions than Bayesian networks without hidden variables. After introducing the general concept of a hidden variable and how it can be understood in Bayesian networks, we present a distinction between optimizing and essential hidden variables. We propose that it is only essential hidden variables that add representational power to Bayesian networks. We then explain past research with hidden variables in light of this new distinction and implement an exploratory algorithm to find essential hidden variables and to examine the conditions on the distribution that hint at their existence.

The study of ecological systems is often impeded by components that escape perfect observation, such as the trajectories of moving animals or the status of plant seed banks. These hidden components can be efficiently handled with statistical modeling by using hidden variables, which are often called latent variables. Notably, the hidden variables framework enables us to model an underlying interaction structure between variables (including random effects in regression models) and perform data clustering, which are useful tools in the analysis of ecological data. This book provides an introduction to hidden variables in ecology, through recent works on statistical modeling as well as on estimation in models with latent variables. All models are illustrated with ecological examples involving different types of latent variables at different scales of organization, from individuals to ecosystems. Readers have access to the data and R codes to facilitate understanding of the model and to adapt inference tools to their own data.
