This is the memoir of one of two sisters who survived the Holocaust by posing as Catholic Poles in Germany during World War II. They missed the liquidation of their ghetto by mere hours, hiding in a shed all night listening to the screams of their fellow Jews. Then went into Germany and took up work in a hotel housing Gestapo officers. Many close escapes and daring moments make this book chilling.

Memoirs of a Jew born in 1924 in Łódź. At the beginning of the war, Neumark fled to Tomaszów, where he worked at an "Aryan" firm, posing as a Pole. However, he lost this job when the ghetto in Tomaszów was closed. In October 1942 most of the ghetto Jews were deported; for the rest, including Neumark, the ghetto was transformed into a labor camp. In May 1943 he escaped and, with the assistance of friendly Poles, obtained "Aryan" papers and left for Warsaw. There, he volunteered for the Jewish underground organization ŻOB (as a messenger), as well as membership in two opposing Polish resistance groups - Miecz i Plug (Sword and Plough) and Gwardia Ludowa (People's Guard). In August 1944, during the Warsaw Uprising, Neumark was captured by the Germans and sent to a camp in Vienna where, after another escape, he was liberated by the Soviets. After the war he settled in the USA.

Upon a diagnosis of heart disease, diabetes or cancer, a person would be inundated with support, sympathy and love. Correct? Why then is there a judgement on illnesses diagnosed like bipolar, depression or any other mental health condition? Usually exacerbated by trauma, mental illness is the imbalance of naturally occurring chemicals in the brain. Fortunately, it is manageable and treatable! Childhood is often not the fertile place for growth and security, but instead a place of fear and invalidation. This often leads a person to be hyper sensitive to their environment and question their self-worth. This story takes you on a touching journey of a person suffering with borderline personality disorder, documenting how mental health has played out in every aspect of their life. "Hiding in the open" highlights struggle, acceptance and finding love. There is something for everyone in between these covers.

The Book Of Hiding written by Timothy K. Beal and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002-01-04 with History categories.

The Book of Hiding offers a fluent and erudite analysis of the parallels between the Bible and contemporary discussions of gender, ethnicity and social ambiguity. Beal focuses particularly on the traditionally marginalised book of Esther, in order to examine closely the categories of self and other in relation to religion, sexism, nationalism, and the ever-looming legacies and future possibilities of annihilation. Beal applies the critical tools of contemporary theorists, such as Cixous, Irigaray and Levinas, challenging widely held assumptions about the moral and life-affirming message of Scripture and even about the presence of God in the book of Esther. The Book of Hiding draws together a variety of different perspectives and disciplines, creating a unique space for dialogue raising new questions and reconsidering old assumptions, which is profoundly interesting and well-articulated.
