From the Preface: "This book was written for the active reader. The first part consists of problems, frequently preceded by definitions and motivation, and sometimes followed by corollaries and historical remarks... The second part, a very short one, consists of hints... The third part, the longest, consists of solutions: proofs, answers, or contructions, depending on the nature of the problem.... This is not an introduction to Hilbert space theory. Some knowledge of that subject is a prerequisite: at the very least, a study of the elements of Hilbert space theory should proceed concurrently with the reading of this book."

An Introduction To Hilbert Space written by N. Young and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1988-07-21 with Mathematics categories.

This textbook is an introduction to the theory of Hilbert space and its applications. The notion of Hilbert space is central in functional analysis and is used in numerous branches of pure and applied mathematics. Dr Young has stressed applications of the theory, particularly to the solution of partial differential equations in mathematical physics and to the approximation of functions in complex analysis. Some basic familiarity with real analysis, linear algebra and metric spaces is assumed, but otherwise the book is self-contained. It is based on courses given at the University of Glasgow and contains numerous examples and exercises (many with solutions). Thus it will make an excellent first course in Hilbert space theory at either undergraduate or graduate level and will also be of interest to electrical engineers and physicists, particularly those involved in control theory and filter design.

The reproducing kernel Hilbert space construction is a bijection or transform theory which associates a positive definite kernel (gaussian processes) with a Hilbert space offunctions. Like all transform theories (think Fourier), problems in one space may become transparent in the other, and optimal solutions in one space are often usefully optimal in the other. The theory was born in complex function theory, abstracted and then accidently injected into Statistics; Manny Parzen as a graduate student at Berkeley was given a strip of paper containing his qualifying exam problem- It read "reproducing kernel Hilbert space"- In the 1950's this was a truly obscure topic. Parzen tracked it down and internalized the subject. Soon after, he applied it to problems with the following fla vor: consider estimating the mean functions of a gaussian process. The mean functions which cannot be distinguished with probability one are precisely the functions in the Hilbert space associated to the covariance kernel of the processes. Parzen's own lively account of his work on re producing kernels is charmingly told in his interview with H. Joseph Newton in Statistical Science, 17, 2002, p. 364-366. Parzen moved to Stanford and his infectious enthusiasm caught Jerry Sacks, Don Ylvisaker and Grace Wahba among others. Sacks and Ylvis aker applied the ideas to design problems such as the following. This book gives a comprehensive introduction to modern quantum mechanics, emphasising the underlying Hilbert space theory and generalised function theory. All the major modern techniques and approaches used in quantum mechanics are introduced, such as Berry phase, coherent and squeezed states, quantum computing, solitons and quantum mechanics. Audience: The book is suitable for graduate students in physics and mathematics.

This book treats the very special and fundamental mathematical properties that hold for a family of Gaussian (or normal) random variables. Such random variables have many applications in probability theory, other parts of mathematics, statistics and theoretical physics. The emphasis throughout this book is on the mathematical structures common to all these applications. This will be an excellent resource for all researchers whose work involves random variables.

Linear Operators In Hilbert Spaces written by Joachim Weidmann and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Mathematics categories.

This English edition is almost identical to the German original Lineare Operatoren in Hilbertriiumen, published by B. G. Teubner, Stuttgart in 1976. A few proofs have been simplified, some additional exercises have been included, and a small number of new results has been added (e.g., Theorem 11.11 and Theorem 11.23). In addition a great number of minor errors has been corrected. Frankfurt, January 1980 J. Weidmann vii Preface to the German edition The purpose of this book is to give an introduction to the theory of linear operators on Hilbert spaces and then to proceed to the interesting applica tions of differential operators to mathematical physics. Besides the usual introductory courses common to both mathematicians and physicists, only a fundamental knowledge of complex analysis and of ordinary differential equations is assumed. The most important results of Lebesgue integration theory, to the extent that they are used in this book, are compiled with complete proofs in Appendix A. I hope therefore that students from the fourth semester on will be able to read this book without major difficulty. However, it might also be of some interest and use to the teaching and research mathematician or physicist, since among other things it makes easily accessible several new results of the spectral theory of differential operators.

Harmonic Analysis Of Operators On Hilbert Space written by Béla Sz Nagy and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-09-01 with Mathematics categories.

The existence of unitary dilations makes it possible to study arbitrary contractions on a Hilbert space using the tools of harmonic analysis. The first edition of this book was an account of the progress done in this direction in 1950-70. Since then, this work has influenced many other areas of mathematics, most notably interpolation theory and control theory. This second edition, in addition to revising and amending the original text, focuses on further developments of the theory, including the study of two operator classes: operators whose powers do not converge strongly to zero, and operators whose functional calculus (as introduced in Chapter III) is not injective. For both of these classes, a wealth of material on structure, classification and invariant subspaces is included in Chapters IX and X. Several chapters conclude with a sketch of other developments related with (and developing) the material of the first edition.
