A obra História do galego-português. Estado linguístico da Galiza e do Noroeste de Portugal desde o século XIII ao século XVI. (Com referência à situação do galego moderno) foi inicialmente publicada em 1986 na Série «Linguística» do então Instituto Nacional de Investigação Científica (INIC), tendo-se esgotado em poucos anos. Reimpressa em 1997, incluída na Série «Textos Universitários de Ciências Sociais e Humanas» da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian e da Junta Nacional de Investigação Científica e Tecnológica (JNICT), a obra encontra-se igualmente, desde há vários anos, esgotada. As frequentes solicitações de investigadores de vários países, às vezes distantes, que continuam a manifestar a necessidade de consulta da obra levaram a equacionar a possibilidade de uma segunda reimpressão, agora no âmbito das Publicações da Imprensa da Universidade de Coimbra: a inviabilidade de uma nova edição de um trabalho desta natureza e, além disso, tecnicamente muito complexo, e a inexistência de um outro estudo com os mesmos ou idênticos objetivos aos que orientaram a sua conceção original levaram a autora a decidir disponibilizar novamente a obra, esperando que ela continue a prestar serviços aos estudiosos de história da língua portuguesa e de história da língua galega.
