Il s'en faut cependant que tous ces docu ments soient d'une valeur égale; la plupart d'entre eux sont écrits en un roumain barbare; ils trahissent les efforts qu'on faisait pour rendre par écrit les mots dela langue parlée; la phonétique est parfois tellement altérée qu'il faut deviner les mots qu'on avait voulu écrire; toutefois, il n'est pas impos sible d'y puiser des renseignements des plus précieux, puisque ce n'est que grâce à eux qu'on peut mieux connaitre les parti cularités linguistiques propres à telle ou telle région; c'est aussi avec leur aide qu'on arrive à se faire une idée de ce qu'était la syntaxe du xv1° siècle, les textes religieux offrant moins d'in térèt à ce point de vue par le fait qu'ils reproduisent le plus souvent la syntaxe des modèles étrangers.
