Le corps franc Simon a été sans conteste l'unité du maquis la plus active en Haute-Savoie au cours de la période 1943-1944. Sa brève existence, un peu plus de cinq mois, est compensée par l'incroyable activisme dont ses membres font preuve. Claude Barbier écrit une haletante histoire de ce groupement, commandé par un gamin de 18 ans, François Servant, dit Lieutenant Simon, tué vraisemblablement deux jours après son dix-neuvième anniversaire. Loin d'être des écervelés, les hommes de Servant agissent sous les ordres du lieutenant Théodose Morel (Tom). Les victimes du groupe franc sont essentiellement françaises, ce qui interroge sur la nature même du combat livré: politique ? militaire ? Quoi qu'il en soit, les hommes de François Servant participent à la destabilisation des autorités de l'État en Haute-Savoie. Ne sont-ils pas sur le point d'assassiner le préfet ? Mémoire et représentations ne sont pas omises et il est légitime de s'interroger sur les raisons de l'oubli dans lequel ont fini par tomber François Servant et ses hommes.
