Dios quiso por fin recogerla bajo su amparo, pero se asegura muy de positivo que poco antes de morir recobró perfectamente su entendimiento; y cual el que despierta azorado por los mágicos efectos de una terrible pesadilla, y queda después inmóvil y sumergido en un grande abatimiento, asi quedó esta soberana... tranquila. Por lo que dedicó su pensamiento á orar fervorosamente, y á la disposicion de su alma, á lo cual le ayudó con su inimitable celo San Francisco de Borja, duque de Gandía, que dió la casualidad de hallarse presente á tan terrible acto. El dia 11 de abril de 1555 y en su misma noche, que era la del jueves Santo, finalizó su larga y penosa existencia, siendo sus últimas palabras: «Jesucristo, acogedme en vuestro seno.» Asi terminó esta soberana española, poseida de una pasión aunque lícita, exagerada. Se vuelve á repetir, que si el archiduque hubiera existido, habria espiado terriblemente su crímen solo con ver el incomparable daño que habia causado á una reina que no tuvo otro delito que adorarlo con ciega idolatría. ¡Ejemplo terrible, para despues de conocido procurar refrenar las exageradas pasiones, que no traen otro resultado que males sin cuento, como se podrá conocer por el retrato que se ha trazado de la reina de España, DOÑA JUANA LA LOCA.
