El Sudeste Hispano narra los acontecimientos que tuvieron lugar en las provincias de Florida y Luisiana desde su descubrimiento y exploración por conquistadores españoles a principios del Siglo XVI hasta su anexión por los Estados Unidos en 1821. En la larga epopeya de la historia del Sudeste los españoles fueron los primeros protagonistas liderados por aguerridos paladines como Juan Ponce de León, Hernando de Soto, Pedro Menéndez de Avilés y el formidable Bernardo de Gálvez. Francia se unió a los esfuerzos colonizadores intentando establecer enclaves en el noreste de Florida primero y en el delta del Misisipí después. Por su parte Inglaterra se asentó más al norte en las provincias de Virginia, Carolina y Georgia aunque con la intención siempre de extender su dominio hacia el sur. En este drama histórico de conquista quedaron involucrados los nativos del Sudeste cuya existencia como pueblo fue truncada por la presencia de los europeos que llevaron con ellos enfermedades contagiosas contra las que los indígenas carecían de inmunidad, por la pérdida de sus tierras ancestrales y por la esclavitud a que fueron sometidos. Con el tiempo, los franceses vendieron la Luisiana a los Estados Unidos por un puñado de dólares, los británicos fueron derrotados por los norteamericanos en la Guerra de la Independencia iniciada en 1776 y los españoles cedieron la Florida a la nueva nación tras la _ rma del Tratado Adams-Onís en 1819. En este año, el domino europeo del Sudeste norteamericano acabó para siempre.
