En 1640 un grave terremoto obliga a refundar la ciudad. De fascinante lectura, esta obra no sólo recorre la historia de Santiago, sino que, a través de ella, transita el pasado de Chile; una historia general desde la vida de una ciudad, Santiago, que para el autor “distingue y honra a las grandes ciudades históricas de todos los tiempos”. SOBRE EL AUTOR Armando de Ramón (Santiago de Chile, 1927) es profesor emérito de la Universidad Católica de Chile, numerario de la Academia Chilena de la Historia y correspondiente de la Real Academia Española de la Historia. Obtuvo la beca Guggenheim en 1984. Fue galardonado con el premio Arch C. Gerlach (1994-1997), otorgado por el Instituto Panamericano de Geografía e Historia dependiente de la Organización de Estados Americanos. Fue distinguido con el Premio Nacional de Historia (Chile) en 1998.
