Dagmar Liebscher setzt sich mit der Frage der adäquaten Gestaltung der Kostenrechnung unter Beachtung des EU-Beihilferechts im Bereich Forschung, Entwicklung und Innovation an Hochschulen auseinander. Ziel ist es, ein Kostenrechnungssystem so auszugestalten, dass es diesen rechtlichen Rahmenbedingungen genügt. Dafür werden Anforderungen aus der Rechtsnorm an die Kostenrechnung abgeleitet. Die Autorin diskutiert mögliche Ausgestaltungsvarianten theoretisch und erarbeitet Gestaltungsempfehlungen für die Praxis, die anhand der Anforderungen bewertet werden. Durch die Umsetzung dieser Gestaltungsempfehlungen werden Hochschulen in die Lage versetzt, den EU-Anforderungen besser gerecht zu werden als bisher.

Her study integrates factors from the spheres of career, family and lifestyle, and redefines stages in long-term decision-making processes, thereby contributing to decision and migration theory. She analyzes migrants’ shifting priorities over the course of migration, including a perspective on life course and on the impact of the triple catastrophe of March 11, 2011.

Elena Frech addresses the issue of candidate (re-)selection for the European elections. Studying German parties, the author investigates both, the rules and practice of candidate selection. The study is one of the first to shed light on the goals political parties pursue when selecting candidates in the European context. First, the author provides a detailed account of the formal and informal procedures German parties use to construct the electoral lists for the European elections. Then she turns towards the individual candidates, showing which factors determine the list placement of incumbent parliamentarians. The findings highlight the importance of individual candidate characteristics as well as party institutions and are of interest not only to scientists but also to parties, politicians, and citizens.

This thesis deals with the topic of how technological knowledge declines over time, and the resulting limitation of techno-economic energy demand models to anticipate the future demand for energy in the context of long-term scenarios. Since this is a principle limitation of ex ante analyses, this deficiency has been discussed for some time, but so far no methodological solution has been developed. This thesis is the first to develop a concept that draws on a broad methodological basis from different scientific disciplines (energy modelling and innovation economics) to address this limitation. Applying the developed concept to a practical question - energy scenarios for the German household sector until 2050 - shows that integrating the decline of technological knowledge leads to interesting new insights.

The objective of this thesis is to explain if the way the EU assesses its interests (both norma-tive and rational) and foreign policy goals corresponds to its actions in North Africa during the Arab Spring process. It seeks to understand whether the EU's conduct in the areas of security, economic prosperity and value projection in Tunisia and Libya was based more on material interests or on values by also taking member state involvement into consideration. This study adopts an original approach, using insights from neoclassical realism. The research findings it presents are based on the author's extensive analysis of EU documents, expert interviews, primary sources and secondary literature. The author moved to Ankara after the completion of her doctoral studies in Cologne. Her research interests are EU foreign policy, Turkish foreign policy and foreign policy analysis.

Untersucht wurden Veränderungen und Anpassungen in Strukturen, Aufgaben und Prozessen sowie im Berufsbild und der professionellen Identität von Diplomatinnen und Diplomaten. Dabei wurden zwei Untersuchungsstränge, bilaterale Diplomatie innerhalb der EU und außerhalb der EU, gesondert betrachtet.
