The digital copies of this book are available for free at First Fruits website. place.asburyseminary.edu/firstfruits Preface In January 1860 was issued at Buffalo, N. Y., the first number of The Earnest Christian by my beloved father. In the introductory article he states "The doctrine of Christian Holiness as taught by Wesley and Fletcher, being as we conceive plainly enforced in the Word of God and constituting the real strength and power for good of the Church of Christ will occupy a prominent place in our columns." Readers of The Earnest Christian will testify that this promise was amply redeemed. For more than a quarter of a century his pen was busy with topics vital to godliness. The subject of Holiness was a constantly recurring theme. This book is a compilation of the editorials written in the interval of the years 1860-1893. It necessarily must follow that there be some repetition of illustration and phraseology in articles written during such an extended period of time, without the logical connection that attaches to a formal treatise. Immediately following the death of my father, Feb., 27, 1893, there came a demand for the publication of a collection of his editorial writings. The work has been undertaken amidst the exacting demands of school work, it has been a labor of love, and of personal spiritual good. The reception accorded this venture, will decide as to the publication of other volumes on other topics. That this book may go forth to bless the world, with a fuller light and knowledge of God's good will to man, is my hope, my prayer. Amen. BENSON HOWARD ROBERTS, A. M. Chesbrough Seminary, North Chili, N. Y. JUNE 29, 1893.

Just before his execution, Jesus Christ invited his disciples to join him at a borrowed house in Jerusalem to celebrate the Passover. As he faced betrayal, arrest and crucifixion, he taught them about the very heart of the Christian faith, namely, holiness. When the time came to leave the house, he continued his teaching. As they made their way through darkened streets that were filled with hostility to him, he spoke of how he would empower them to be his witnesses in a world that would often hate them too. Jesus was the teacher; the disciples were his pupils. It was the school of Christ. David Gooding’s exposition reveals the significance of the lessons Jesus taught inside the upper room (chs. 13–14), their connection to the lessons taught outside in the streets (chs. 15–16) and how both parts of this course on holiness relate to the Teacher’s prayer to his Father (ch. 17). With a scholar’s care for the text of Scripture, he expounds both the devotional richness and the practical nature of the lessons. He shows that to understand Christ’s teaching on holiness is to know his power to change lives.

In Hebrews 12:14 we are told: "Without Holiness No One Will See The Lord" Although many lukewarm "Christians" believe holiness is optional, this last verse clearly states that you will NOT see the Lord if you live a non-holy life -- this means you will NOT be with Jesus if you live a non-holy life. Because of this, it is essential that every professing Christian truly live a life worthy of Jesus Our Lord and Savior. As part of this endeavor of holiness, it is sincerely prayed that the reader of this book, by God's grace, obtains more wisdom to accomplish all that God desires in reaching and maintaining holiness as God desires. It will take all your life - 100% of your commitment to the Lord to accomplish this holiness. As God states "Be ye holy as I am holy." (1 Pet 1:16) This is a commandment and NOT a suggestion. It is not optional. Since God always gives you the ability to carry out each and every commandment He gives, then it is definitely possible as well as essential to live the holy life God requires. Don't let the devil nor false teachers convince you that living holy every day of your life is impossible. God commands it and so God enables you to live holy. But you must cooperate with Jesus and depend on Him to help you obey and be holy. But the question is: Will you allow and seek Jesus to help you live holy?

Classic Teachings On The Nature Of God written by R. C Sproul and has been published by Hendrickson Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010 with Philosophy categories.

R. C. Sproul has committed his life to clearly communicating deep, practical truths from God's Word to students and laypeople. His lucid teaching style brings clarity to the most difficult--and often contentious--biblical and theological questions. Gathered here in one volume are three of his best-selling books--over $40 worth of reading at a great low price. From Rudolf Otto's" mysterium tremendum" to Martin Luther's "insanity"and Jonathan Edwards's fiery sermons, Sproul's classic "The Holiness of God"illuminates history and Scripture to help readers understand--and live with--the tension that exists between God's terrifying holiness and his inexplicable grace. In "Chosen by God," Sproul tackles the divisive subject of predestination, and discusses God's sovereignty and the problem of evil, human freedom, and the task of evangelism. He explains that there is a mystery in God's ways but not contradiction; and paints a picture of a loving--not spiteful or whimsical--God who provides redemption for radically corrupt people."Pleasing God" explores the topic of sanctification--how we satisfy God by pursuing righteousness. Sproul examines the constant battle Christians wage against sin--pride, slothfulness, dishonesty. He reveals how many Christians have tragically abandoned the struggle, but that God delights in those who press on. Although Sproul brings a Reformed background and approach to topics, his work is not just for Calvinists but for all Christians who want to understand and build on the foundations of their faith.

"... it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy."1 Peter 1:16 HOLY BIBLE (KJB). HOLINESS. The Bible declares that GOD is Holy, and we are to be holy as well. But what does that really mean and what does that look like practically in the life of a believer? If people take half the truth and leave out the other half of what the Word of GOD teaches, it gives place to dangerous false teachings and doctrines. Some Christians have completely ignored holiness and have absolutely no evidence of it in their lives, while others have taken it to the other extreme and become like the legalist Pharisees of the old days. Since the Word of GOD teaches us so clearly what Biblical holiness is, let's examine the Scriptures, expose false teachings about holiness, and get back to classical Christian teaching!

Conflict Holiness And Politics In The Teachings Of Jesus written by Marcus Borg and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1998-06-01 with Religion categories.

Originally published in 1984, this extraordinary work has until now been available only in an expensive library edition. The present edition has been completely updated and redesigned, and includes an extended new introduction by Marcus Borg that relates the book's central arguments to subsequent Jesus scholarship. A foreword by N.T. Wright characterizes the book as one of the foundational works in the "third quest" for the historical Jesus. In the book, Marcus Borg argues that conflict between a politics of holiness and a politics of compassion, and their implications for Israel, resides at the center of Jesus' activity and teaching. He emphasizes several features that have since become central to Jesus scholarship: the importance of Jesus' inclusive meal practice, a non-apocalyptic paradigm for understanding Jesus, and Jesus as a social prophet and boundary-breaker. Marcus J. Borg is Hundere Distinguished Professor of Religion and Culture in the Philosophy Department at Oregon State University. He is the author of nine books, including Jesus in Contemporary Scholarship, also published by Trinity Press.
