Weltkrieg, Note: 1,3, Universität Bielefeld, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Männliche Homosexuelle gehören zu einer der vielzähligen Opfergruppen, welche während des Nationalsozialismus diskriminiert, verfolgt und bekämpft wurden. Das Entsetzen über die grausame systematische Vernichtung von Juden ist vermutlich der Grund dafür, dass die Aufarbeitung der Verfolgung zahlenmäßig kleinerer Gruppen lange Zeit nur sehr geringe öffentliche und wissenschaftliche Aufmerksamkeit erhielt. Am Nollendorfplatz in Berlin, findet man eine Gedenktafel in Form eines Winkels, mit der Inschrift "Totgeschlagen / Totgeschwiegen / den / homosexuellen Opfern / des / Nationalsozialismus". Die Gedenktafel soll den Opfern die Aufmerksamkeit schenken, welche ihnen lange Zeit verwehrt wurde. Homosexuelle Opfer gehören zu jenen, deren Aufarbeitung erst sehr spät begann, da sie zum einen für lange Zeit in den Hintergrund rückten, zum anderen gezielt aus dem Bewusstsein der Menschen verdrängt wurden. Aus diesem Grund besteht die Relevanz, sich mit diesem Kapitel der deutschen Geschichte auseinanderzusetzen und den Opfern die Aufmerksamkeit zukommen zu lassen, die ihnen zusteht. Die Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit der Fragestellung "Wie sah die Lebenssituation eines männlichen Homosexuellen im Nationalsozialismus aus?". Weitere Unterfragen, beispielsweise "Wie kam es zu der Verfolgung männlicher Homosexueller? Wieso betraf die Verfolgung hauptsächlich männliche Homosexuelle? Wie sah die Verfolgung aus? Welche Sanktionen und Bestrafungen hatten sie zu erwarten? Wie konnte Homosexualität gleichzeitig strafbar und dennoch in gewissen Kreisen praktiziert und geduldet werden?", werden im Zuge dieser Arbeit untersucht und beantwortet.

Ausführlich dargestellt werden die Verhältnisse der Sprachforschung in der Zeit des Nationalsozialismus, mit einer Dokumentation der Verfolgten und ins Exil Getriebenen (insgesamt 301 verfolgte Personen) und einer ausführlichen Darstellung der Forschungssituation im „Reich“. Ausgehend von dieser Darstellung wird die Entwicklung der Sprachforschung seit dem 19. Jahrhundert skizziert, bei der sich zeigt, daß diese bis in die Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts von einem kulturanalytischen Fachverständnis bestimmt war. Der Bruch damit in der neueren Entwicklung fällt in Deutschland mit der „Vergangenheitsbewältigung“ nach 1950 zusammen, erweist sich so aber als unabhängig von solchen gesellschaftlichen Zusammenhängen. Die personalen Zusammenhänge der Argumentation werden durch eine Liste der Kurzbiographien zu den im Text erwähnten über 500 Wissenschaftlern erschlossen.

Thirty years passed before it was accepted, in West Germany and elsewhere, that the Roma (Germany's Gypsies) had been Holocaust victims. And, similarly, it took thirty years for the West German state to admit that the sterilisation of Roma had been part of the 'Final Solution'. Drawing on a substantial body of previously unseen sources, this book examines the history of the struggle of Roma for recognition as racially persecuted victims of National Socialism in post-war Germany. Since modern academics belatedly began to take an interest in them, the Roma have been described as 'forgotten victims'. This book looks at the period in West Germany between the end of the War and the beginning of the Roma civil rights movement in the early 1980s, during which the Roma were largely passed over when it came to compensation. The complex reasons for this are at the heart of this book.

Recent years have witnessed a resurgence of biological research into the causes of crime, but the origins of this kind of research date back to the late nineteenth century. Here, Richard Wetzell presents the first history of German criminology from Imperial Germany through the Weimar Republic to the end of the Third Reich, a period that provided a unique test case for the perils associated with biological explanations of crime. Drawing on a wealth of primary sources from criminological, legal, and psychiatric literature, Wetzell shows that German biomedical research on crime predominated over sociological research and thus contributed to the rise of the eugenics movement and the eventual targeting of criminals for eugenic measures by the Nazi regime. However, he also demonstrates that the development of German criminology was characterized by a constant tension between the criminologists' hereditarian biases and an increasing methodological sophistication that prevented many of them from endorsing the crude genetic determinism and racism that characterized so much of Hitler's regime. As a result, proposals for the sterilization of criminals remained highly controversial during the Nazi years, suggesting that Nazi biological politics left more room for contention than has often been assumed.
