Dear brothers and dear sisters, when you will have finished to read this modest spouted out reflexion of my heart curiously full of hope, you and let us must itself us regard itself as composing henceforth, an alive universal fraternal platform because committed partners and with the service of the Promotion of the Life based on GOD who is love. Militant for Life in abundance that we are becoming right now, we form together and gathered wherever we are living on the common earth planet, "the armed forces of Love". Let us adhere firmly each other for a harmonized, undifferentiated and imperturbable epic fight from now on, against insidious adversaries of Life. We all have to remain remarkable models of faithfulness to this ideal of killing death by promoting the Life. We all have to be spontaneously present where two or three gather to build the happy conviviality, to celebrate Love, Understanding, Solidarity and Peace. We have to bring actively and with obstinacy humility and strictness of our different and complementary personalities, the determination of our good will to remain always and positively together but especially gathered. This, because we will finally be able to look ahead in the same and vital direction, that to expand and brighten to make of it a dynamic tropism for the whole Humanity, the indelible founding and fertilizing marks of the global Human Chain of fair and equitable sharing from generation to generation. What a beautiful continuum and what a beautiful and fruitful prospect based on our unwavering conviction that Africa is not a Traveler without Luggage ! Dear brothers and dear sisters, this is trustful address made to our naturalness and happy leaning for the good and the beautiful, I formulate it basing on the following painful finding: The many, horrible and morbid cliches which offer to us to see and live, not only the media but also the lived daily one in Africa and in the rest of the world, lead me to practise in a seizing paradox made at the same time great pain and of indescribable feeling of confidence and hope, Africa in deep agony. And that constantly leads me to auscultate this great Africa whose hypersensitive groans of the breathless heart, beating at very slow and jerked rythm, makes the following question rise up to my scrutinizing mind:What is Africa suffering from so that she vegetates so perniciously ?

Featuring the real-life experiences of contemporary African women who tell of atrocities, pain, motherhood, marriage, love, and courage in their daily life, this gripping collection brings greater awareness to a continuing struggle. Denied a voice by their own culture for centuries, these women speak out for the first time, sharing poignant tales of abuse and womanhood robbed, revealing their methods of survival, and divulging their dreams for themselves and their children. A girl describes hiding under a blanket from the Lord's Resistance Army in search of child brides; a woman speaks of her family abuse and rejection followed by the deaths of her child and partner only to learn later that the father of her child was already married with eight children and had AIDS. Dramatic, sometimes heartbreaking, often inspiring, this is the first book to truly show what it means to be a 21st-century African woman.

"When severe draught hit her village in Zimbabwe, Elizabeth, then eight, had no idea that this moment of utter devastation would come to define her life purpose. Unable to move from hunger, she encountered a United Nations aid worker who gave her a bowl of warm porridge and saved her life. This transformative moment inspired Elizabeth to become a humanitarian, and she vowed to dedicate her life to giving back to her community, her continent, and the world. Grounded by the African concept of ubuntu--"I am because we are"--I Am a Girl from Africa charts Elizabeth's quest in pursuit of her dream from the small village of Goromonzi to Harare, London, New York, and beyond, where she eventually became a Senior Advisor at the United Nations and launched HeForShe, one of the world's largest global solidarity movements for gender equality. For over two decades, Elizabeth has been instrumental in creating change in communities all around the world; uplifting the lives of others, just as her life was once uplifted. The memoir brings to vivid life one extraordinary woman's story of persevering through incredible odds and finding her true calling--while delivering an important message of hope and empowerment in a time when we need it most"--

Religion is often seen as a conservative force in contemporary Africa. In particular, Christian beliefs and actors are usually depicted as driving the opposition to homosexuality and LGBTI rights in African societies. This book nuances that picture, by drawing attention to discourses emerging in Africa itself that engage with religion, specifically Christianity, in progressive and innovative ways--in support of sexual diversity and the quest for justice for LGBTI people. The authors show not only that African Christian traditions harbor strong potential for countering conservative anti-LGBTI dynamics; but also that this potential has already begun to be realized, by various thinkers, activists and movements across the continent. Their ten case studies document how leading African writers are reimagining Christian thought; how several Christian-inspired groups are transforming religious practice; and how African cultural production creatively appropriates Christian beliefs and symbols. In short, the book explores Christianity as a major resource for a liberating imagination and politics of sexuality and social justice in Africa today. Foregrounding African agency and progressive religious thought, this highly original intervention counterbalances our knowledge of secular approaches to LGBTI rights in Africa, and powerfully decolonizes queer theory, theology and politics.

What is African theology? What are its distinctive traits and characteristics, modes of investigation, and style of expression? Can African theology reach wider and run deeper than simple propositional articulation? What concerns and special circumstances have shaped its outlook? What unique burdens or hurdles imposed by the past must African theology surmount? What challenges and opportunities lie before it? What are African theology’s prospects? As a field of Christian engagement, is it condemned to be only an appendage to theology imported from the West and the North? Or does it have a distinctive contribution to make and gifts to share, not just within the continent of Africa, but also with the Christian world at large? These questions exercise the mind and soul of the African church. A worthy capstone to a lifetime of service as a theologian, educator, and ecumenical leader, this volume offers John Samuel Pobee’s considered and mature reflections on issues he raised nearly forty years ago when he published Toward an African Theology.
