'How to Live in a Flat', if posed as a question, is worth asking today with so many articles on tiny flats with hugely inflated price tags in the newspapers. Flat-dwellers were faced with very similar problems in 1936. During 1932 and 1933 Heath Robinson had drawn a series of cartoons for 'The Sketch' entitled 'Flat Life', which depicted various gadgets designed to make the most of the limited space available in the contemporary flat. It was this series of drawings that provided K. R. G. Browne and W. Heath Robinson with the inspiration for their first full-length book together. It was called 'How to Live in a Flat' and, as well as greatly extending the original ideas showing many ingenious ways of overcoming the problems caused by lack of space in flats and bungalows, the book also provided much fun at the expense of the more extreme designs in thirties furniture and architecture. The book was published for Christmas 1936 and was well received. 'How to Live in a Flat' is surprisingly relevant to life in Britain in 2014. In fact, several of Heath Robinson's space-economising solutions have been used in practice to maximise the use of space in small flats. We have beds that fold down from wardrobes fully-made and ready to sleep in, communal rubbish shoots, central heating and multi-purpose furniture. So Heath Robinson was way ahead of his time and reading 'How to Live in a Flat' may spark other innovative solutions to making life bearable in a tiny twenty-first century home! If, in addition to being a flat-dweller (perhaps in a garden flat), you are also married with a car and you play golf then you will find much to amuse and inform you in our other titles by Heath Robinson and K. R. G. Browne: How to be a Perfect Husband How to Make a Garden Grow How to be a Motorist Humours of GolfAll our Heath Robinson titles include a Foreword by Geoffrey Beare, Trustee of the William Heath Robinson Trust, who is working to build a Heath Robinson museum in North London.

How To Buy A Flat written by Liz Hodgkinson and has been published by How To Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-05 with Apartments categories.

Buying a flat to live in or to let is different from buying and living in a house. For example, apartments are sold leasehold rather than freehold which means you buy a length of tenure rather than the property itself. This can have serious implications when the freeholder suddenly hikes up the service charges or lands you with a six figure sum for exterior decoration. And more quarrels and lawsuits arise among flat dwellers than with any other type of housing. So it is essential that, if you can't 'love thy neighbor' you can at least co-exist reasonably peacefully together for everyone's benefit. This book explains the complicated leasehold laws governing flats and gives expert advice on how to live amicably in an apartment building. It features topics such as: understanding the laws that govern multiple occupation; the different types of communal housing available; how leases work; management and articles of Association; common problems and their solutions; choosing an ideal apartment; buying the freehold; and dealing with nuisance neighbours. CONTENTS: 1. The history of apartment dwellings 2. What type of flat is it best to buy? 3. The lease 4. Management 5. Increasing the value of your flat 6. Ex-local authority blocks 7. Letting a flat 8. When things go wrong 9. Buying abroad 10. Conclusions Resources Index

An award-winning author/illustrator team offers a fresh look at the times and transitions all toddlers face daily, giving young children the tools to handle routines with confidence and cooperation. Being dropped off at childcare or cared for by a baby-sitter means saying good-bye to Mom or Dad—and for many toddlers, bye-bye is a big deal. This gentle book helps ease the transition with simple rituals: hugs and kisses, a big wave, a deep breath, and the confidence to seek comfort with the new caregiver or other children. Toddlers learn that good-bye isn’t forever, it’s just for a while. Part of the Toddler Tools series, Bye-Bye Time can be shared before (or during) the desired “time,” or whenever toddlers need encouragement with routines. Includes tips for parents and caregivers.

Confessions Of A Crummy Mummy The Baby Years written by Natalie Brown and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-11-16 with categories.

Unashamedly oversharing the truth about the first year Confessions of a Crummy Mummy - The Baby Years by parenting blogger and accidental mum of four Natalie Brown (@confessionsofacrummymummy) is the literary equivalent of the tea and toast you're handed after giving birth: warm, reassuring and you can't help but want more! An antidote to the traditional parenting manual, the telling-it-how-it-is parenting memoir lifts the lid on a subject the hugely successful genre of telling-it-how-it-is parenting memoirs has yet to touch on: giving birth during a global pandemic. And let's just say giving birth during a global pandemic was not in the birth plan! An easy-to-digest and quick-paced list-style format offers a collection of witty and brutally honest confessions time-poor mums can dip in and out of and back into again. Starting with the birth and what really happens to your lady bits after pushing a human being out of your foo-foo, chapters are split into confessions on subjects including breastfeeding, weaning, homeschooling and washing - and what happens when you find yourself doing it all in the middle of a global pandemic. The light-hearted and entertaining confessions are peppered with heartfelt thoughts, frustrations, and home truths about the first year that every mum will relate to, making the book a perfect gift and must-read for all new (and not so new) mamas feeling like they're doing too many things and none of them well.
