Paul Ryan, my nephew, has been an inspiration to me, which ultimately prompted me to write this book of his amazing experiences and research with communicating with the dead. It is exciting, and will give comfort to those who have lost loved ones in death, and gives hope knowing that we are able to contact them after death. It is utterly amazing and difficult to understand how the Spirit world and our world is able to connect. But with all the electronics available to us, Paul, through his research and his tape recordings have proved these are voices from the other side.

Part mad manifesto, part revolutionary love letter, part freight train adventure story—Maps to the Other Side is a self-reflective shattered mirror, a twist on the classic punk rock travel narrative that searches for authenticity and connection in the lives of strangers and the solidarity and limitations of underground community. Beginning at the edge of the internet age, a time when radical zine culture prefigured social networking sites, these timely writings paint an illuminated trail through a complex labyrinth of undocumented migrants, anarchist community organizers, brilliant visionary artists, revolutionary seed savers, punk rock historians, social justice farmers, radical mental health activists, and iconoclastic bridge builders. This book is a document of one person's odyssey to transform his experiences navigating the psychiatric system by building community in the face of adversity; a set of maps for how rebels and dreamers can survive and thrive in a crazy world. The author, as Sasha Scatter, was in the band Choking Victim and is a co-founder of The Icarus Project.

Validation equals survival. This one point summarizes what this book is about. It is an attempt to put into context the struggle that has occurred within and outside of the gay community for equality, justice and substantiation. This book will seek to paint a picture of homo-sexism through various institutions in this country that shape societal views and perceptions. I define homo-sexism as discriminatory or abusive behavior towards members of the homosexual orientation- including from within the gay community. No where have I seen this term used or defined. Why not? Homo-sexism exists and I believe because it has not been defined, it will continue to exist. Have we jumped defining basic terms in light of more dramatic terms, such as hate crimes or homophobia? Homo-sexism is not the same as homophobia. Homophobia describes a fear against same-sex preferences that can lead to homo-sexism and ultimately hate crimes. There is a process. It is appropriately used to legally and culturally define the use of ones gender against the individual or group, but does not include homosexuality. It is because there is so much passion, several issues exude at once. Because of this multiple exudation, this project began out of frustration and utter invalidation. How is that for a motivation? Many friends and students have directly or indirectly encouraged me to go forward with my ideas. This book examines the struggles one gay man has in his life and uncovers the truth it holds as he combats love, disease and society.

A reader-friendly guide to Zen Buddhist ethics for modern times In the West, Zen Buddhism has a reputation for paradoxes that defy logic. In particular, the Buddhist concept of nonduality — the realization that everything in the universe forms a single, integrated whole — is especially difficult to grasp. In The Other Side of Nothing, Zen teacher Brad Warner untangles the mystery and explains nonduality in plain English. To Warner, this is not just a philosophical problem: nonduality forms the bedrock of Zen ethics, and once we comprehend it, many of the perplexing aspects of Zen suddenly make sense. Drawing on decades of Zen practice, he traces the interlocking relationship between Zen metaphysics and ethics, showing how a true understanding of reality — and the ultimate unity of all things — instills in us a sense of responsibility for the welfare of all beings. When we realize that our feeling of separateness from others is illusory, we have no desire to harm any creature. Warner ultimately presents an expansive overview of the Zen ethos that will give beginners and experts alike a deeper understanding of one of the world’s enduring spiritual traditions.
