I grew up in the City of Chicago, attended Rezin Orr High School on the near northwest side of Chicago, graduated in 1980, and attended the College of Automation computer School. I have spent the majority of my life working with computers, which I deem to have been a very rewarding field as well as educational. During my twenty-nine-year tenure in the information technology field, I have seen the computer industry technology really skyrocket into a very sophisticated technology that have affected our lives in so many ways that we depend on computers to the point that it has become a way of life for us. You cant go to any major supermarket nowadays without the cash registers being computerized in some way, shape, or form. They even have check out lines where you dont even need a cashier to ring you up. You can do it yourself by scanning the barcode of your purchases and the computer will check the price through a computerized database and come back with the right price. The most fascinating thing about computers is the security mechanisms that have been put in place to help facilitate protection and control. Even homeland security depends on computers in protecting and saving lives to some degree or another. So it just makes sense to use computerized technology in other areas of our lives that not only enhance, but can also prevent a potential harmful element from ruining our lives. Computerized technology used in conjunction with controlling how a person uses his gun can save lives. And really, after everything else is failing isnt it time we came up with a winwinwin solution to todays problems? This is what this book will present. Solutions that solve problems.

A Bullet Saved My Life is the remarkable story of Bob Peters, one of the last surviving veterans of the Spanish Civil War. Bob left his native Wales to go to Canada during the Depression. He found work on the Great Lakes and also became interested in politics. Early in 1937 he sailed from New York to France and was smuggled into Spain where he joined the British Battalion of the XV International Brigade. He went into battle against Franco's armies at Brunete and was shot in the back while crawling through a trench. The bullet was too near his spine to be removed. Bob was transferred from the frontline to work as a motorcycle dispatch rider. Incredibly, the bullet moved with the jarring impact of the rough roads and doctors could eventually cut it out. As casualties were so high in his former unit, Bob says that if he had stayed on the battlefield he would have been killed.

Because of the fixation on the Great War's opening moves, and the great battles that followed over the course of the next four years, the endgame seems to come as a stunning anticlimax. At the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month of 1918 the guns simply fell silent. The Last Battle definitively corrects this misperception. As Hart shows, a number of factors precipitated the Armistice. After four years of bloodshed, Germany was nearly bankrupt and there was a growing rift between the military High Command and political leadership. But it also remained a determined combatant, and France and Great Britain had equally been stretched to their limits; Russia had abandoned the conflict in the late winter of 1918. However complex the causes of Germany's ultimate defeat, Allied success on the Western Front, as Hart reveals, tipped the scales-the triumphs at the Fifth Battle of Ypres, the Sambre, the Selle, and the Meuse-Argonne, where American forces made arguably their greatest contribution. The offensives cracked the Hindenburg Line and wore down the German resistance, precipitating collapse. Final victory came at great human cost and involved the combined efforts of millions of men.
