Natural gas may heat our homes and help us cook, but rarely do people consider where it comes from, or even what it's made of. Incredibly, this gaseous mix of mostly methane and ethane didn't become a major source of the world's energy until the 1960s. It was thought to be an inconsequential by-product of oil production. There's much to learn about natural gas in this beneficial book, which focuses on how the gas is formed as well as examines how it's mined and used today. The text highlights the most relevant and engrossing information, while graphic organizers help readers identify the most important concepts.

Advances in Natural Gas: Formation, Processing, and Applications. Volume 3: Natural Gas Hydrates comprises an extensive eight-volume series delving into the intricate realms of both the theoretical fundamentals and practical methodologies associated with the various facets of natural gas. Encompassing the entire spectrum from exploration and extraction to synthesis, processing, purification, and the generation of valuable chemicals and energy, these volumes also navigate through the complexities of transportation, storage challenges, hydrate formation, extraction, and prevention. In Volume 3 titled Natural Gas Hydrates, the fundamental aspects of natural gas hydrates, their associated disasters, and case studies are introduced. This book delves into the intricate details of hydrate structures, physio-chemical properties, and thermodynamics, offering a comprehensive understanding. This volume also explores hydrates as an energy source and covers their dissociation methods. A significant focus is placed on the challenges of natural gas hydrates formation in pipelines, accompanied by prevention techniques. Additionally, this book discusses the discovery and extraction of natural gas hydrates from oceans, shedding light on related geophysical indicators.

Undoubtedly, the industrialized countries are already facing a major and even existential problem: that of the transition from societies based on the massive use of fossil fuels to societies that have learned to do without them. This will, of necessity, be the real driver of the energy transition that we are talking about so much now! Because it is the future availability of fossil fuels that will give the tempo of this transition, and not the development of other sources of energy, so difficult is the way that remains to be done to these to replace them! This book aims to provide non-specialists, and those who are concerned by energy transition and climate protection, basic knowledge to better understand the nature of fossil fuels and their importance in the economies of the industrialized countries. The book also explains why their future availability will play a vital role in the future economic and social transformations in these countries. It consists of two parts that can be read in a largely independent way: – The first part aims to present the variety of fossil fuels and the physicochemical principles ruling their formation and that of their deposits in the earth’s crust. – The second part is a discussion on major current issues: What are the remaining fossil fuel reserves? When precisely during this century can we predict the decline of their productions? What consequences will this decline have for industrial societies? What is and what will be their role in climate change? What risks does their use entail for public health?

Economic Geology Of Natural Gas Hydrate written by Michael D. Max and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-07-09 with Science categories.

This book is a companion to “Natural Gas Hydrate in Oceanic and Permafrost Environments” (Max, 2000, 2003), which is the first book on gas hydrate in this series. Although other gases can naturally form clathrate hydrates (referred to after as ‘hydrate’), we are concerned here only with hydrocarbon gases that form hydrates. The most important of these natural gases is methane. Whereas the first book is a general introduction to the subject of natural gas hydrate, this book focuses on the geology and geochemical controls of gas hydrate development and on gas extraction from naturally occurring hydrocarbon hydrates. This is the first broad treatment of gas hydrate as a natural resource within an economic geological framework. This book is written mainly to stand alone for brevity and to minimize duplication. Information in Max (2000; 2003) should also be consulted for completeness. Hydrate is a type of clathrate (Sloan, 1998) that is formed from a cage structure of water molecules in which gas molecules occupying void sites within the cages stabilize the structure through van der Waals or hydrogen bonding.

Advances in Natural Gas: Formation, Processing, and Applications is a comprehensive eight-volume set of books that discusses in detail the theoretical basics and practical methods of various aspects of natural gas from exploration and extraction, to synthesizing, processing and purifying, producing valuable chemicals and energy. The volumes introduce transportation and storage challenges as well as hydrates formation, extraction, and prevention. Volume 1 titled Natural Gas Formation and Extraction introduces natural gas characteristics and thermo-physical properties. The book discusses various formation and synthesize techniques from non-renewable sources (coal, oil shale, etc.) and renewable sources (biomass, sewage, algae, etc.) of natural gas as well as its extraction techniques from different reservoirs. It also covers related environmental challenges of natural gas, economic assessment of its extraction and production technologies, health. Introduces natural gas characteristics and properties Describes different renewable/non-renewable sources for natural gas production and extraction Includes various methods and technologies for extracting and producing natural gas with related challenges
