This is a 21st-century guide to unreasonableness, stubbornness and the determination never to be impressed by anything. Crabbit old buggers are not defined by gender, nationality, creed or class - to be a crabbit old bugger is a state of mind, a way of living, a reason to exist that transcends all. "Crabbit Old Buggers", the book, is a guide to these determinedly dour, intolerant creatures. It takes the loveless and misbegotten buggers, pulls them from their dank holes and makes them face the dazzling light of the issues of the day - politics, technology, the arts. It helps the reader recognise the traits that define them, the different levels of crabbitness - from the mildest to the most incorrigible - and explains why a little bit of it in all of us is no bad thing. And it proves once and for all that, for this sector of society, the future is not bright - it is just something that will have to be endured. But endure it they will and they're going to make damn sure that we know they're enduring it. Because sometimes reason enough to go on living is to wish you didn't have to.

Bryan Robson is widely remembered as a fearless and inspirational player and captain, both for club and country, whose presence lifted team-mates and intimidated opponents. At his peak, he was acknowledged as the most complete midfield player in the country, and played at the highest level despite a series of devastating injuries. He began his playing career at West Bromwich Albion, then moved to Manchester United in 1981 for a then record British transfer fee of £1.5 million. He soon became captain, and enjoyed regular Cup success, eventually winning the Championship. He also won 90 caps for England, 65 of them as captain. His autobiography reveals a fascinating insight into his days with the England and United camps and characters such as Paul Gascoigne, Gary Lineker, Roy Keane and Alex Ferguson. He puts the record straight on the 'drink culture' that Ferguson sought to stamp out at United, and describes his pain when he discovered he was surplus to the manager's requirements. He candidly reflects on the highs and lows of his football life, and discusses incidents on the pitch as well as some of the clashes that have happened behind the scenes.

Waterstones Scottish Book of the Month 'A love story to the mountains in the mist, the pulsating northern lights and the red deer at dawn. And to independence.' - The Washington Post 'A Thoreauvian account of solitary life in the Scottish Highlands . . . delightful' - Kirkus Reviews 'Ken Smith’s advice for staying alive in inclement conditions could equally be applied to achieving hard-won dreams' – Geographical 'Ken Smith comes across as a thoughtful, resourceful and above all humane man . . . inspiring' – BBC Countryfile Magazine ***** Could you leave behind the bustle of modern society and spend your days immersed in nature? In The Way of the Hermit, seventy-four-year-old Ken Smith recounts a life he has chosen to spend alone with the wilderness. Ken Smith has spent the past four decades in the Scottish Highlands. He lives alone, with no electricity or running water. His home is a log cabin nestled near Loch Treig, known as 'the lonely loch', where he lives off the land: he fishes for his supper, chops his own wood, and even brews his own tipple. He is, in the truest sense of the word, a hermit. For the first time, Ken shares the story of his life. From his working-class origins in Derbyshire, to the formative years he spent travelling in the Yukon and finally how he came to be the Hermit of Loch Treig. Looking back through decades of diary entries, Ken reflects upon the reasons he turned his back on society, the vulnerability of old age and the awe and wonder of a life lived in nature. The Way of the Hermit is a humorous, transcendent and life-affirming memoir.

A story of action, adventure, and young love is set against the backdrop of a time of great change, as the “peace and love” era of the 1960s gives way to the “freedom revolution” of the 1970s. Sex and drugs and rock and roll? Sure. That and so much more. So much to learn and so fast: the good, the bad, and the ugly. Five teens set adrift in that era experience and absorb everything life throws at them as they traverse that difficult bridge that will take them from mid-teens to young adults. It’s a story today’s teens will find fascinating, and somewhat confronting to think that their parents actually did some of these things. The Fearless Five – Jordie, Jess, Marty, Robbie, and Josh – were about to embark on a life-changing journey. No more little kid stuff; things were getting serious. Set in Tasmania at the end of the swinging sixties, A Journey of Discovery picks up their story as they are about to enter their last year of high school. But it’s outside of school where they gain a real education. The school of life – it’s a great teacher – but unlike school it rarely gives second chances. Stuff up in the real world and the consequences can be brutal. But make the right decisions and the payoff could be huge, as Jordie and Jess through the music they create are about to discover.

I can do a similar version for "Teaching Days" which offers various insights into the 20 plus years I spent working for TAFE NSW, an organisation I joined in 1988. I was appointed Head Teacher of Professional Photography in1995 and held that position until I retired in August 2008. "Teaching Days" describes some of the staff and students that I encountered as well as some of the wins and losses that are inevitable in a large beaurocracy.

The World Forest's last stand against the Dream Emperor's religion of exploitation depends on one magical child. All Atlantis thinks it knows the story of the Maji's birth. But what if the traditional story of the holy one's gifts, childhood and days leading up to exile in Markland was a lie? What if there were witnesses, and their stories were rather different from the sacharine tales told every year? Here in Testaments of the Maji, Consecration, for the first time the story is told by those that were there. Here are the stories of the miracles surrounding his birth and his.idyllic childhood in the Ilfilands in the days leading up to their colonisation by Atlantis. But here too are the stories of the colonisers and the colonised, and the Ilfi's horrific secret of the power of their sorcery, and the true reason for the Maji's exile, so long suppressed by doctrine. Testaments of the Maji is a fantasy exploring the realm of religious narratives. Set in Atlantis it may, however, prove all too familiar. WARNING: not suitable at all for children.
