Essay from the year 2021 in the subject History Europe - Other Countries - Ages of World Wars, grade: 9/10, , language: English, abstract: After the collapse of the Polish state in late 1939 a new political order was established that would change the face of eastern Europe forever. The resettlement of the Baltic-Germans from Estonia and Latvia was one element in this irreversible change and took place just six weeks after the signing of the German-Soviet Treaty of Friendship. Plans were revealed by Adolf Hitler in his Reichstag’s speech on the 6th of October 1939. Already on the following day his announcement was published by Rigasche Rundschau, the biggest interwar period German newspaper of Latvia. The call for repatriation marks the beginning of German resettlement actions in the Baltics. Rigasche Rundschau was first published in 1894 in the Russian Empire and was closed after most of its readers left Latvia. Until its end, the newspaper was considered as reliable, read by German minorities all across Europe. Rigasche Rundschau printed its last issue on the 13th of December 1939.

This is the first detailed study of Estonian politics during the 1930s. It examines the Estonian Veteran's League, which won a majority in a referendum for its constitutional amendment, creating a strong presidency. The Veterans appeared set to triumph in the 1934 elections, but were thwarted by the establishment of an authoritarian regime. By using formerly unobtainable archival records, this study fills a considerable gap in the literature on the Baltic states and should be of interest to students of fascism.

"This book features a broad range of thematic and national case studies which explore the interrelations and confrontations between conservatives and the radical right in the European and global contexts of the interwar years. It investigates the political, social, cultural, and economic issues that conservatives and radicals tried to address and solve with different means and perspectives. Conservative forces ended up prevailing over far-right forces in the 1920s, with the notable exception of the fascist regime in Italy. But over the course of the 1930s, and the ascent of the Nazi regime in Germany, the competition and opposition between conservative forces exacerbated, with increased power for radical right and fascist movements. The book will be of great interest to students and scholars of politics, history, fascism and Nazism"--

Germans From The East written by H.W. Schoenberg and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with History categories.

Who, in 1945 and 1946, could have foreseen that the economic and social integration of the millions of Germans from the East expelled into West Germany after Wodd War II would largely be accomplished in a few years? And, who could have foreseen that many years after this accomplishment the political repercussions of the expulsions would go on? Yet, surprisingly enough, this is what has happened. In 1969, as usual, the major issues of the federal election campaign in West Germany hardly reflect any specific economic and social concerns of the expellees, not even those bruited about by the NPD (N ationaldemokratische Partei Deutschlands). At the same time, how ever, all the political parties vying in the campaign, with the exception of the newly founded, less influentialDKP (the new German Commu nist Party), pay considerable deference to the political interests of the expellees in the German question. Whether these interests represent the opinion of most of the expellees and whether the expellee associ ations in fact speak for many voters is another matter. Why are these questions rarely posed? Why, despite the economic and social integration of the expellees, do the East German Home land Provincial Societies - the Landsmannschaften - retain much influence? The explanation of this phenomenon becomes increasingly clear if one reads the intelligent and superbly documented analysis by Hans Schoenberg.

Liberal Nationalism In Central Europe written by Stefan Auer and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004-07-31 with History categories.

After the collapse of communism there was a widespread fear that nationalism would pose a serious threat to the development of liberal democracy in the countries of central Europe. This book examines the role of nationalism in post-communist development in central Europe, focusing in particular on Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. It argues that a certain type of nationalism, that is liberal nationalism, has positively influenced the process of postcommunist transition towards the emerging liberal democratic order.

The Origins Of The Second World War In Europe written by P. M. H. Bell and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-09-11 with History categories.

PMH Bell's famous book is a comprehensive study of the period and debates surrounding the European origins of the Second World War. He approaches the subject from three different angles: describing the various explanations that have been offered for the war and the historiographical debates that have arisen from them, analysing the ideological, economic and strategic forces at work in Europe during the 1930s, and tracing the course of events from peace in 1932, via the initial outbreak of hostilities in 1939, through to the climactic German attack on the Soviet Union in 1941 which marked the descent into general conflict. Written in a lucid, accessible style, this is an indispensable guide to the complex origins of the Second World War.
