‘How many millionaires do you know who have become wealthy by investing in savings accounts? I rest my case.’ – Robert G. Allen, investment advisor and author of Multiple Streams of Income In many people’s thinking, the financial markets are reserved only for the wealthy or people with financial or economic backgrounds. They discard the idea of becoming involved in trading because they perceive it to be too difficult. But Ross Larter, author of How to Make Money on the Stock Exchange, believes that the markets provide opportunities for everyone to generate income. Learning the skills of trading on the stock market can provide you with the opportunity to generate an income well into your retirement years. To those who have walked the journey for a while, the stock market becomes like an all-you-can-eat buffet, providing opportunity on a daily basis for individuals to make money for themselves and their families. How to Make Money on the Stock Exchange is written for ordinary people, in everyday language, to help them understand how the stock market works, and how to use this knowledge to acquire the necessary skills to generate a secondary (and potentially a primary) income by investing and/or trading on the markets. You don’t need to be a financial whizz-kid to make money on the stock market. All you have to do is be willing, and take the time, to learn about it. This book will show you how.

Hungarian by birth, Nicolas Darvas trained as an economist at the University of Budapest. Reluctant to remain in Hungary until either the Nazis or the Soviets took over, he fled at the age of 23 with a forged exit visa and fifty pounds sterling to stave off hunger in Istanbul, Turkey. During his off hours as a dancer, he read some 200 books on the market and the great speculators, spending as much as eight hours a day studying and saturating all the information. Darvas invested his money into a couple of stocks that had been hitting their 52-week high. He was utterly surprised that the stocks continued to rise and subsequently sold them to make a large profit. His main source of stock selection was Barron's Magazine. At the age of 39, after accumulating his fortune, Darvas documented his techniques in the book, How I Made 2,000,000 in the Stock Market. The book describes his unique 'Box System', which he used to buy and sell stocks. Darvas' book remains a classic stock market text to this day.

Decision making based on anticipation of what the future can be, is speculating. What motivates speculating is the possibility to make huge gains out of the transaction by putting some money on risk. How I Made $2 million in the Stock Market is an extraordinary book. It tells one of the most unusual success stories in the history of the stock market. Darvas was not a stock market professional trading on inside information. He was one half of the highest paid dance team in show business, an expert cryptic crossword compiler, and a championship ping pong player. Yet he was able to make himself a millionaire several times over by his unique investment approach. Unlike other so-called systems, it worked regardless of whether the market rose or fell. When news of Darvas's fantastic profits and methods leaked out, he was featured in Time magazine. He then was persuaded to write a book which became an instant hit, selling nearly 200,000 copies in eight weeks. Many of the companies talked about in this book no longer exist. Many of the stocks are no longer traded. Nevertheless, the basic principles are as sound as ever.
