Talking Hawaii’s Story is the first major book in over a generation to present a rich sampling of the landmark work of Hawaii’s Center for Oral History. Twenty-nine extensive oral histories introduce readers to the sights and sounds of territorial Waikiki, to the feeling of community in Palama, in Kona, or on the island of Lanai, and even to the experience of a German national interned by the military government after Pearl Harbor. The result is a collection that preserves Hawaii’s social and cultural history through the narratives of the people who lived it—co-workers, neighbors, family members, and friends. An Introduction by Warren Nishimoto and Michi Kodama-Nishimoto provides historical context and information about the selection and collection methods. Photos of the interview subjects accompany each oral history. For further reading, an appendix also provides information about the Center for Oral History’s major projects.

Kona is the heart of the sunny side of the Big Island. It's a historic region promising balmy weather, white sand beaches, Kona coffee country, tropical flowers and trees, fantastic snorkeling and diving and countless other adventure opportunities. Hualalai, an 8,271-foot dormant volcano, towers above it all. Three distinct areas comprise the Kona district: North Kona, South Kona, and the "big city" of Kailua-Kona. The bustling commercial hub was the capital of Hawaii from 1812 to 1819, when King Kamehameha the Great lived out his life at Ahu'ena Heiau near the Kailua Pier. Nearby Hu.

Finding Triathlon written by Scott Tinley and has been published by Hatherleigh Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-11-17 with Sports & Recreation categories.

Training for and completing a triathlon is one of the most grueling life experiences anyone can have, requiring a degree of personal commitment, individual strength and iron will that few people possess. A true test of your ability to find, and then surpass your physical, mental and emotional limits, the only real analogue to triathlon…is the challenge of life itself. In Finding Triathlon, professional athlete Scott Tinley explores the world inside and outside endurance sports, seeking answers to age-old questions. Part memoir, part cultural exploration, Tinley uses the language of sports to speak universal truths. Told through anecdotes, both personal and shared, with a critical, inquisitive, and often humorous interpretation of a life lived through the medium of sports, Tinley reflects on the sport of triathlon, honest competition, and the drive to improve ourselves as a whole, looking to understand how and why we live our lives. Finding Triathlon is not a self-help book, and it’s not a fitness guide. Nor is it just about triathlons and triathletes. It’s about a lifestyle, a perspective, a way of looking at the world and its challenges, as you strive to better yourself and better understand yourself. Whether you’re training for the next big race or you’ve never run a mile in your life, Finding Triathlon speaks to the champion in each of us, demonstrating how making the decision to push ourselves to succeed in our dreams can affect our life, our world, and our future.

What is it that makes a person dream and come up with some of the wildest stories one can dare tell to a husband, wife, friend, or stranger? First of all, are they funny stories or scary stories? Are they stories anyone would dare to believe? Are they stories that ordinary people would really like to hear about or read about? And what in the world created such funny or unbelievable stories? Was it stress, or was it insomnia? Or are we just natural dreamers? My stories probably come to me from having too much time in my hands and thinking too much. The following stories probably came to me as dreams when I was doing a lot of daydreaming back in the seventies. At the time, I was pulling my weight while working at White’s Auto Store warehouse in the small town of Shallowater, Texas. I was a certified forklift driver pulling orders, license, and all. I worked in what was called Area 8. I pulled the big boxed toys, bicycles, and lawn mowers. I also pulled the fertilizer bag orders. Working inside a warehouse had many disadvantages. There was always dust all over the place. The warehouse was always hot in summer and pretty cold in winter. Many times when it was slow, I would let my mind just wander off into oblivion. That’s when my stories were born and began to take shape. Characters and names of characters would pop into my mind out of nowhere.
