Are you looking for a lucrative, fast-growing start-up? Resale or consignment shops are one of your best options when it comes to making a lot of profit with minimal investment. Because you sell consignment at no cost to yourself, after your initial overhead expenses, everything becomes profit. Customers bring you their unwanted merchandise, which you agree to sell in your shop for a percentage of the sale price. You pay nothing up front for your stock, and don't even need to go out and secure it yourself. You customers literally carry it through your front door. If you do choose to supply some of your own items, you'll find that you can buy antiques, quality furniture, and other name brand designer items for mere pennies on the dollar, then resell them at a substantial profit. Best of all, you can depend on a resale shop in a difficult economy. When consumers are strapped for cash, major retailers will suffer, but the thrift store won't. Customers still want and need certain items, and when money is tight, they'll spend it on quality used products from your business. What's more, when they see your selection (a resale shop almost always has a superior variety of items than a department store), they'll continue to come back, even when after the economy improves. People looking for antiques and hard-to-find items will make a resale shop their first stop. You'll find your repeat customers range from avid collectors, to interior designers; from compulsive upgraders, to the average family simply looking to save a few dollars every time they shop. Your business will appeal to people from all demographics and walks of life. It's as close to fail-safe as any business can get. An urgent testament to the trials of life for women living without a financial safety net Indie icon Michelle Tea -- whose memoir The Chelsea Whistle details her own working-class roots in gritty Chelsea, Massachusetts -- shares these fierce, honest, tender essays written by women who can't go home to the suburbs when ends don't meet. When jobs are scarce and the money has dwindled, these writers have nowhere to go but below the poverty line. The writers offer their different stories not for sympathy or sadness, but an unvarnished portrait of how it was, is, and will be for generations of women growing up working class in America. These wide-ranging essays cover everything from selling blood for grocery money to the culture shock of "jumping" class. Contributors include Dorothy Allison, Bee Lavender, Eileen Myles, and Daisy Hernáez.

Recycling Reconsidered written by Samantha Macbride and has been published by MIT Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-12-09 with Political Science categories.

How the success and popularity of recycling has diverted attention from the steep environmental costs of manufacturing the goods we consume and discard. Recycling is widely celebrated as an environmental success story. The accomplishments of the recycling movement can be seen in municipal practice, a thriving private recycling industry, and widespread public support and participation. In the United States, more people recycle than vote. But, as Samantha MacBride points out in this book, the goals of recycling—saving the earth (and trees), conserving resources, and greening the economy—are still far from being realized. The vast majority of solid wastes are still burned or buried. MacBride argues that, since the emergence of the recycling movement in 1970, manufacturers of products that end up in waste have successfully prevented the implementation of more onerous, yet far more effective, forms of sustainable waste policy. Recycling as we know it today generates the illusion of progress while allowing industry to maintain the status quo and place responsibility on consumers and local government. MacBride offers a series of case studies in recycling that pose provocative questions about whether the current ways we deal with waste are really the best ways to bring about real sustainability and environmental justice. She does not aim to debunk or discourage recycling but to help us think beyond recycling as it is today.
