From hunters to hunted... It’s almost one hundred years since The Great Turning, the catastrophic meteor strike that changed the world forever. Russell Owens is a recently discharged New North Americas Army sniper who only wants to return to his home just outside of Yellowstone to resume life with his gentle husband, Ted. Russell doesn’t want to re-up and hates that he had to kill for a living. Zola Wright is the most skilled assassin the NNAA has ever had. She was tricked into re-upping—once. When the burned-out Red is sent to find Russell to talk him into returning, what her commanding officer doesn’t realize is that she’s not coming back. Her conscription time is up, and she wants out. She’s also reluctantly falling for Russell. Now the sniper and the assassin are the ones being hunted, on the run from the army they just finished serving. Their former CO has secrets he’ll kill to keep. But Russell and Zola have more in common than their killing skills. And when Russell and Ted both fall for Zola, she knows their only option is to stand and fight together for the happiness and peace they yearn for—or die trying. Book 1 in The Great Turning trilogy. Science-fiction, post-apocalyptic, meteor strike, GLBTQ, HEA.

Turning Griping Into Gratitude written by Ronald J. Lavin and has been published by CSS Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000 with Drama categories.

Ron Lavin provides an ideal resource for small groups who want to explore the Psalms, or for preachers who want to present an inspirational series of sermons. Discussion questions are provided at the end of each chapter, as well as a guide for leaders. Says Lavin: "Griping is one of the most insidious and divisive things into which we easily fall, while gratitude is the most productive of attitudes. The Psalms are filled with the battle between griping and gratitude, a battle we all fight. The psalmists knew both attitudes, including the self-defeating nature of griping and the wonder and majesty of gratitude." By both verbal and written word, Ron Lavin has the ability to communicate with hearers and readers in a probing yet assuring way, a challenging yet comforting manner, with a confronting yet assisting approach. Through his vignettes on the Psalms, he makes yesterday's prayers, hymns, confessions, and thanksgivings our own. Dr. Reuben Swanson, former secretary Evangelical Lutheran Church in America What an inspiration to read homilies which deal head-on with everyday problems and possibilities... it's always an event when Ron Lavin mounts the pulpit. Jerry L. Schmalenberger, former president Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary These are just some of the enthusiastic testimonials from those who have field-tested this study: This book got me to grow up and face some things I needed to face. My attitude toward life changed in light of Psalm 30: "You turned my wailing into dancing..." Each chapter increased my knowledge of scripture and strengthened my walk with God. The practical applications in the book have become a source for coping with the many struggles of my daily life. This is an excellent study book for leading group discussions on what the Psalms mean in our daily lives. By reading the chapters and following up with group discussion, you can't help but grow in faith, understanding, and gratitude for the many gifts God has given us. Ron Lavin has served congregations in Indiana, Iowa, Arizona and California -- and congregational membership doubled in four of the five churches he served. Membership in his Davenport, Iowa parish increased by over 2,000, while more than 1,000 new members were baptized during his pastorate in Tucson, Arizona. A popular speaker at major conferences and a prolific writer, he has led the church in understanding the dynamics of small groups and evangelism.

Turning To Into For written by Calvin Sims and has been published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-06-28 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

There has never been a motivational book like Turning To into For. Based on the author's philosophy that the most important of life's lessons are preceded by a test, the book is composed of two parts: the test and the lesson. The test: the autobiographical first part is the riveting story of a boy who was abandoned as a toddler and left to grow up in an abusive foster home where he was abused, molested, and encouraged to steal until at age nine, when he was given a gun and taken under the wings of the neighborhood gang leader. The lesson: the second part will empower the reader as the author shares the life's lessons, born of unimaginable pain and suffering, which enabled him to, with only a ninth grade education, become an international computer consultant. Inspired to teach the principles that enabled him to escape becoming a tragic statistic, he abandoned a very lucrative career, founded a nonprofit organization, and became an internationally renowned educator, recognized, among other honors, by the George W. Bush White House for his work with at-risk and underprivileged populations. The power of these lessons was called on once again when in 2014 cancer struck. Through treatment and faith, the cancer was eradicated, but the author was left paralyzed from the waist down. The amazing result of what could have ended in tragedy was the reemergence of one of America's most dynamic motivational speakers. Turning To Into For will inspire you, empower you, and teach you the principles of what the author has demonstrated, by way of his remarkable life, that which will help you to overcome the obstacles that cause so many of us to fail. The concepts and strategies in this work will strengthen you and help you to develop a powerful, relentless mental attitude that refuses to accept defeat. "I never lose. I either win or learn, but I never ever lose."

Buddhist teachings like the eightfold path, the four noble truths, and karma pervade Buddhist literature—but how often do we read what the Buddha himself had to say about these topics? Here is an accessible look at the Buddha’s First Discourse, which contains the foundation for all further Buddhist teaching. Ajahn Sucitto offers a new translation of this revolutionary teaching, known as The Discourse That Sets Turning the Wheel of Truth. He then walks us through the text, offering engaging and practical point-by-point commentary that makes the Buddha’s words come alive and reveals how the text’s wisdom can inspire our own liberation.

On Turning Sixty Five written by John Jerome and has been published by Random House this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-04-13 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

"Personally, I've got a lot invested in reaching my stunning current age, and I'm damned if I'm going to hang on to that youthful crap. (I liked the idea of being a sixty-year-old so much I started claiming that age before I turned fifty-nine.) Parts of it, I don't like--the loss of energy that seems its inevitable accompaniment, for example--but when I consider how I used to boil that energy away as a younger man, and the things I boiled it away on, I am happy to accept a shorter tether and a more reflective way of going at things." John Jerome, author of such beloved books as Truck and Stone Work, entered his sixty-fifth year with a number of goals in mind: to battle the debilities of age, to master them through understanding when he could not physically defeat them, and to keep a journal of these efforts. As he puts it, "It was time to start planning an endgame." The result is a warm, compassionate, and honest look at the twelve months that led him to the gateway of old age--a survey of this time of life which ranges from strict physiology to expansive philosophy, from delicate neurosurgery to rough weather on a Canadian canoeing trip, from the despair and isolation of illness to the love and comfort of a sound marriage. The writing, in its clarity, grace, and humor, matches its author's spirit. "The quality of our lives depends on the quality of our time," Jerome reminds us. Reading this wise and funny chronicle of one man's--and everyman's--journey toward citizenship, senior division, will be time well spent, for young and old alike. It is that rare kind of book which comes to life as a companion, and even a friend.

The Mechanics Of Claims And Permissible Killing In War written by Alec D. Walen and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-03-15 with Philosophy categories.

According to the dominant account of rights, there are two ways to permissibly kill people: they have done something to forfeit their right to life, or their rights are outweighed by the significantly greater cost of respecting them. Contemporary just war theorists tend to agree that it is difficult to justify killing in the second way. Thus, they focus on the conditions under which rights might be forfeited. But it has proven hard to defend an account of forfeiture that permits killing when and only when it is morally justifiable. In The Mechanics of Claims and Permissible Killing in War, Alec D. Walen develops an alternative account of rights according to which rights forfeiture has a much smaller role to play. It plays a smaller role because rights themselves are more contextually contingent. They systematically reflect the different kinds of claims people can make on an agent. For example, those who threaten to cause harm without a right to do so have weaker claims not to be killed than innocent bystanders or those who have a right to threaten to cause harm. By framing rights as the output of a balance of competing claims, and by laying out a detailed account of how to balance competing claims, Walen provides a more coherent account of when killing in war is permissible.
